Even with minor flaws, one of the best games out there, July 29, 2005
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Monster Hunter (Video Game)
This game is by far one of the best i've played. If you can't take it online, although its still good, you may want to wait. The offline tends to get frustrated and repeating quests over and over again to get money gets boring fast.
Pros:
+ Game works awsome online with no monthly charge
+ Armor changes the way you look as well as character customization, don't expect to find your game twin anytime soon.
+ Awsome quests
+ A large collection of weapons and armor to unleash your deadly rage.
+ Cooking, Fishing, Hunting, an more only add to the experiance.
+ Fights with Wyverns and online bosses like Lao feel epic every time.
+ Multible areas like the valcano or jungle.
Cons:
- No offline multiplayer
- Frustrating offline mode
- 1 star quests offline are boring and are nothing but tutorials that have to be done.
- Can only leave town if your on a quest.
- this game WILL make you hungry when your cooking. Dangit, that well done steak looks good.
Your gamer,
Joshua Kyle Daniel

Awesome! A Must-Get sleeper hit!, July 12, 2006
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Monster Hunter (Video Game)
I submitted an earlier review of this game based on level 1 missions. Well those are basically tutorials. I am almost to level 5 now and I have to say that this game rocks. I play offline only though due to lack of broadband connection, so it takes quite a bit of time to get money for upgrades to armor and weapons as well as the other necessary items required to survive the later levels. There are tons of armor and weapons to be had and any combination you desire...assuming you are able to aquire to necessary items carved from various creatures or won on various levels. Also, certain armor combos produce skills for your fighter such as resistance to poison, paralysis, knockout negated, and hunger halved. Weapons can also be upgraded to have attributes like inflicting poison status on your prey. I see that trading with the forest elders will also be invaluable for rare items. So far, I haven't had too much trouble completing any mission since I have upgraded to a great sword called the Dragon Agito. Very nice and powerful. =) Strategy is a key to defeating wyverns. Be sure to bring the appropriate supplies depending on the map you are fighting in i.e. desert bring cool drinks. Bring plenty of health potions and stamina recovery items such as well done steaks you cook yourself. Cool! =) Also, you have to know when to RUN! Seriously. If you are getting your tail kicked, run to another screen away from the wyvern, drink your healing potions, resharpen your weapon, and then go back to kickin wyvern tail! While you are away it is also a good time to make any other items you may need such as more pitfall traps to catch the wyvern in, more barrel bombs to weaken him, etc. If you play offline only like I am, it will take hours and hours and hours and...you get the picture...to acquire all the armor and weapons you desire. But I have been playing almost everyday for a month now and still going strong and it is still a blast although tedious. As your character acquires stronger armor and weapons, you can go back to earlier levels and fight previous wyverns that you USED to be afraid of, and can tell them now to "bring it on!" lol For the current price this game is going for, you are missing out if you don't get this. I highly recommend it.

Offline is fun too., October 17, 2004
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Monster Hunter (Video Game)
First of all, I'm only to give the game four stars because that's what I think it deserves in terms of playing offline(village). Everything looks great, character creation is diverse, the music is beautiful and kind of wierd at the same time, and ambient noises are-i think-the most redeeming quality since no other game developer has found time to match MH. Aside from that, expect alternative, albeit tight gameplay and interesting "side-activities" like fishing, roasting meat on a spit, and combining items to make different kinds of herbs and bait, as well as any variation of the game's weapons you want. Sadly, I have neither a Network Adapter nor a USB Keyboard, however Christmas is nearby so I hope to get an even more amazing game experience come December when I go online.
