4.0 out of 5 stars Optical is the way to go
If you haven't spent a decent amount of money on your sound system, don't buy optical cable. I hear many people complain about how they can't tell the difference between RCA and optical, but when I see what they're using for a receiver and speakers, the problem is obvious. 1.0 out of 5 stars More Monster hype
"High velocity of propagation for lower time smear"

What does this mean? The light from the source to the destination over this 1 meter cable probably takes 4 to 5 billionths of a second. I would like to know how this time affects anything sonically, as even golden ears who claim they can hear 100 kHz are talking about 10 millionths of a second cycle...

If you haven't spent a decent amount of money on your sound system, don't buy optical cable. I hear many people complain about how they can't tell the difference between RCA and optical, but when I see what they're using for a receiver and speakers, the problem is obvious. You're stereo system is only as good as its weakest link, and optical cable is intended for high-end stereo equipment. It's that simple. If you're balking at the price you're spending on optical cable, you probably haven't invested enough money into your stereo equipment for it to really make a difference.
That said, if you do decide to go optical, Monster is an easy choice. Although I'm sure they hike up the price a bit on name alone, they do make some of the best audio cable out there, optical or otherwise. I've noticed marked improvement in the sound quality from both my DVD and even MP3 player. If you want to take a chance with a less known brand for a cheaper price, good luck, but I'm willing to spend a little more for quality.

4.0 out of 5 stars great long distance connection, June 18, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Monster Cable ILS100-4M Interlink LightSpeed 100 High Performance Digital Fiber-Optic Cable (4 m., Toslink-to-Toslink) (Electronics)
this product offers a great connection to your home audio system if you have the upgraded sound blaster live output panel with the digital output. It is difficult to locate a cable of this length to connect your pc to your receiver, but monster does a great job of it, even if they are overpriced

Light's light - buy the cheapest optical you can find. If it works, it will sound just as good as this overpriced stuff.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Cable!, April 25, 2008
By
This cable is worth every penny. The connector is beautiful. The "M" in Monster is wonderfully printed and the finger grips feel like work of art. Other than the connector, I don't have much to say about this cable compared to other Toslink cables. The innards are really all the same. I can say that there is a marked improvement over the extended coathanger I had been using previously to connect my receiver to my audio equipment.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not as pictured, August 23, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This item is not the one pictured. This is a standard optical cable on both ends. I needed the mini earphone style plug at one end to plug into my Mac.

I give this a bad review because it is not whats is pictured. It shows a toslink to optical audio but this is simply optical audio to optical audio. works great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fits the bill, January 14, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Nothing wrong with this cable:
1. It is a brand name.
2. The length is 1 meter or 3.28 feet - ideal for most component connections.
3. It snaps in and out securely but not too easy to get disconnected (I've read reviews of other cables with that problem).
4. Thirteen bucks shipped.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Cable, Great Distributor, September 7, 2009
By
The product works as described by the previous reviewers. As previously stated, the picture of the item is incorrect; it is a true Toslink-to-Toslink Cable.

I'd like to take the opportunity to praise the distributor/vendor, Robert Thompson. About two weeks after I ordered the cable, I still hadn't received it. Just about the time I began thinking that it was taking a long time to receive, Mr. Thompson sent me an e-mail saying that he had sent the cable, but had not received verification from the shipping company that it had been delivered. I responded that I, in fact, had not received the cable, so he quickly sent me another one...which I did receive.

Fast forward one week later. I was moving my stereo equipment and noticed that the outer "shell" on one end of the cable was broken, requiring tape to hold it together. I contacted Mr. Thompson, and offered to send it to him to show him how it was broken. He said he did not need to see it. Instead, he offered to send me a replacement cord as long as I would cover the $5.00 shipping and handling charge. I figured that was reasonable. He even sent me the replacement cord before he had received my check for the S&H...and the cord works fine.

I give the cord a rating of 3-4 stars, as it is a little flimsy and did break. I give the vendor 5 stars for his fantastic customer service.
