9. U Know I Love U- This is one of the tracks that i skip through because it's not dat good.

10. Home Of The Brave- The best track on the cd hands down Feat. Slimm Calhoun.

11. L.I.V.E.- Tight Flow on dis track phat beat too. Overall great track.

12. Blow(Get Down)- Also one of my favorites on dis cd. This feat Rock-D one of Killer Mikes friends.

13. Sex, Drugs, Rap, Roll- One of the Tighest flows on the album and a futuristic beat.

14. Dragon- The Best Flow He ever Did on any track. This sng is sad though because his deceased friend Frank Fass Black" Williams is on there and the track is dedicated to him R.I.P.(Jazze Pha) Background Vocals

15. Re-Akshon Remix- The Hood Single Also one of my favorites on this cd.

Overall Killer Mike Cd Was what i expected it to be a great album. This grammy award winning artist is worth getting and not forgetting. This is the best south album this year next to Lil Jon and The Eastside Boyz.

* Bonus Track Hard Nard- Great Track too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keep My Weapon Covered Concealed and In A Shield..., April 14, 2003
This review is from: Monster (Audio CD)
Killer Mike is one of the many Dirty South's answers to constant critiscism. You know you hear it all the time...."Southern rap is crap"..."Southern MC's suck"..."all they talk about is ice, women, and cars"..."horrible lyrics" etc. etc. etc. Killer Mike is here to let you know southern rap is where it's at. Killer Mike brings that certain energy and rawness that the game lacks and he is one of the many refreshing lyricists to hit the scene in the last year. This monster has one purpose; Revive the rap game. Backed by the legendary Outkast, Killer is determined to rip through each & every track. The beats are vintage Dungeon Family bangers. 'Scared Straight' is one of the best songs I have heard in the last two years.

Killer Mike's raps have substance. Checc out "All For U" or 'Rap Is Dead' where he addresses the state of hip hop. But he's also into that bump bump bump for ya trunk as witnessed by the first two singles 'AKshon' and 'A.D.I.D.A.S.' He represents for that GA GA on 'Home Of The Brave' which features Slimm Cutta Calhoun. "Blow" is a braggadocio pimp track that sports a really great beat and Mike is menacing with his flow and lyrics on the song. Man the whole cd is ridin. The only song I didn't care for was "U Know I Love U"...it was just wack.

Killer Mike is one of the many new artists holding it down for real with his own style and scheme. Excellent lyrics... excellent dungeon family beats and excellent beats make this an Aquemini records success. Recommended.

like killer said he's "an ungodly figure" and i agree. what makes his album so good first off is he's orginal. he sounds like no one else. his stlye grabs by the throat and does'nt let go. killers lyrics are on heavyweight status because his wordplay is just as clever as jay-z and eminem's. the producation on here is top rate because u know that dungeon family music be str8 bumpin'.

only one song on here is totally whack and i don't understand WHY he put it on there. its called in the club or something, it doesn't fit with the vibe of the album. another big plus about MONSTER is its short and to the point. u won't find no filler tracks on here except that one i mentioned earlier. killer mike says RAP IS DEAD, but listening to him puts it on life support. Hotep!!

In 2000 an unknown named Killer Mike got on OutKast's "Snappin' and Trappin'" but still said with pride, "one mf'n verse/And already it's a classic". And it was, so much that the streets have been waiting for Mike to drop his solo. Now, after joining OutKast again for "Land of a Million Drums", winning a Grammy with them for their "The Whole World" song and blessing us with his own "Akshon (Yeah!)" song, the stage is set for his new album, Monster.

You would think that OutKast would be all over this album but really, they're only on two songs. Andre 3000 gives the intro on "Akshon (Yeah!)" while Big Boi rocks the mike on "A.D.I.D.A.S." The latter is the perfect springtime jam to ride to as Killer Mike continues to hold his own even with Big Boi and Sleepy Brown there.

The rest of the first half of the album also rocks because of the dope beats and Killer Mike's take on various subjects. The title track tells us why he's a monster while "Rap Is Dead" finds him commenting on such things as dead prez not selling records like they should and people still sweating Biggie and 2Pac. "Scared Straight" is a story (maybe autobiographical) about him getting knocked for drug charges and the best song, "All For U", showcases his care for women over a sped-up old soul sample.

Unfortunately, the second half of the album isn't as strong and a lot of the tracks are filler. The same misogynistic subjects occur in such songs as "L.I.V.E." and "U Know I Love U" and D-12's Bizarre doesn't help matters on "Creep Show" with his nasty rhymes. The only songs that stand out are "Home of the Brave" (with Aquemini labelmate Slimm Calhoun) and "Re-Akshon" (with Lil' Jon, T.I. and Bun-B). You can tell that Lil' Jon was involved with the latter because the beat sounds like "Bia Bia".

Overall, this is one of the better Dungeon Family-related albums to come out so far, and now I have a new CD to keep spinning instead of bumping 50 Cent all the time.

OutKast's protege Killer Mike finally released his debut album in 2003, the very underrated and entertaining "Monster." Mike is a really unique rapper, and I became a fan following his guest appearances on various OutKast songs. This album is a really cool release, Mike shows that he can more than hold his own on the solo tip and is a multi-layered, complex character rather than just a guest artist. Mike has lots of moods to watch evolve as he raps on "Monster." He goes from depressed to emotional to angry to happy to silly over the span of a few tracks. He can rap in a style of disturbing horrorcore but is also capable of making a deep and intelligent song too. His bellowing delivery is consistently solid, and he explores a lot of themes in his raps. The production is very strong, obviously very well funded. The music fits the mood of his rapping, and there are rock guitars, heavy horns, deep bass, hard beats, and good instrumentals on lots of the tracks. Killer Mike is also more into the crunk southern rap style than OutKast is, so that influence is often felt throughout the album as well. I think Mike is one of the best rappers in the south, certainly one of the most interesting characters, and his debut "Monster" is really cool to listen to.

After a very good intro, the album begins with the well-produced title track, with a great musical backing and tough raps from Killer. "Akshon (Yeah!)" is the first highlight, an OutKast assisted banger with a hard-hitting, bouncing beat and call-and-response yells. He addresses the state of hip hop on "Rap Is Dead," and "Scared Straight" speaks of urban depression with great verses. My favorite song on the disc is "All 4 U (Niecy's Song)," a truly heartfelt and emotional song for a certain woman in his life, the beat is very dramatic and uses a great sped-up sample. Another awesome song follows, the happy and funky "A.D.I.D.A.S.," which features Big Boi and Sleepy Brown. The verses are each very funny, Sleepy's hook always makes me sing along, and the content matter is real and humorous. The beat is very catchy too. "Creep Show" is an aptly-titled collaboration with D12's Bizarre, they spin obscure rhymes over a nice horn-driven beat. On "U Know I Love You," singer J-Sweet drops by to sing a soulful hook, I really like this track. "Home of the Brave" is an ode to Mike's hometown of Atlanta, a great crunk-influenced club banger with a good hook. "L.I.V.E." is okay but kind of slow-moving, but the heavy-crunk "Blow (Get Down)" is very enjoyable. "Sex, Drugs, Rap & Roll" is an excellent song with a heavily rock-influenced beat, and the Fass Black collaboration "Dragon" is a very unique track. The "Re-Akshon Remix" features southern heavyweights Lil' Jon, Bun B, and T.I. and turns the original "Akshon" into a hard-hitting club track. The bonus track at the end is also good, more vintage Killer Mike.

"Monster" is a great listen that I highly recommend to fans of OutKast, southern rap, and good lyrical and musical hip hop. Killer Mike may not appeal to everyone but he is a great talent and character, and his debut album displays this well. I am excited to hear more material from Killer Mike and eagerly await his next solo release. Until then, I suggest listeners pick up "Monster."

This review is from: Monster (Audio CD)
Killer Mike came out hard for his debut and really grabbed my attention. His lyrics and wordplay are good, and he has his own unique style that he pulls off very well. I did not expect it to be near as good as it is. There is no weak song of the 15 on here (if you let it play after track 15 there is another song at track 30). It has 1 classic, 2 almost classics, many good or great songs and 4 ok ones. The production (all handled by producers from the south) is good as well (and I'm someone who is more of a fan of west or east coast rap). Beat Bullies do 5 songs, Swiffman does 3, Cool & Dre, Andre 3000 of Outkast, Mr. DJ all do 2 each, and Lil Jon does 1. Guests are on a good amount of the songs (rapping on about 6 or 7 and doing the hook on a lot as well) but Killer Mike still shines out on this one. A must have album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Monster is the BEST ALBUM of 2003 so far, June 28, 2003

This review is from: Monster (Audio CD)
Killer Mike has come out and made one of the best debut albums ever. The intro is tight cause it explains the meaning behind calling his album "Monster" and its deep as it can get yo. Some of the best tracks are Monster, AKshon, All 4 U, A.D.I.D.A.S., Creep Show, U Know I Love U, Home of the Brave (my favorite track this represents the ATL large time yo), Blow & Dragon decitated to lost Fass Black "R.I.P." that is a deep ass song yo. I feel in my soul for that one that is an ill song for Fass. But this album has mad flavor and is doing the ATL pround. Remember "This Ain't Your Mama's Music".

This CD ..... Just plain HOT notin left to say. Mah boi was playin it and i only got to hear track 15 Re-Akshon and a couple of the other ones but it was an instant enjoyment. I've noticed though among mah crew that if you dont get down wit Outkast and Dungeon Family you probly wont like this album. Although it isnt exactly like them he shares alot of their qualities. The beats are insane and his flows are unique just like the beats. The CD is blaze i enjoy it and i hope you do to peaces
