Please, oh please, not more Monster Cable telephone cord.,

The phone splitter included in this package is reasonably nice, if you need a light to tell you when you're online. I would imagine that most people don't need that, however, and a much cheaper phone splitter from any number of sources will probably work just as well. There is simply no reason to pay this kind of money for Monster Cable's telephone cords, whether sold separately or included in a kit like this. In audio systems, there's at least some theoretical justification for spending extra money on high-end cables for fractionally better sound quality; that justification does not exist for modems. Your modem's data will go through miles and miles of phone lines that are completely out of your control; the few feet of phone cable you use to connect your modem to the wall simply won't make a difference, unless the cable is actually defective somehow. An inexpensive phone cable will provide connections that are just as fast and just as reliable as Monster's overpriced cable. Save the extra money--or use it to get a slightly better modem, since increases in modem quality _can_ have a significant impact.

The only thing this will do is allow you to use a phone and computer independently on the same phone line without switching cords. Does not allow use of phone and computer at same time, does not announce incoming calls.

Why this product exists.,

I own this product. It has two advantages over a standard cable, which is essentially free. First, it's physical construction is significantly better than the standard phone cord. This may be important to heavy-duty road warriors.Second, the shielding is far superior to unshielded cable, particularly untwisted cable. While it's true, as another review points out, that the signal travels over hundreds or thousands of miles before it reaches the final 10', that last 10' is the most important IF it is in an area with a lot of interference. Ironically, that might make this cable most suitable for an office with excessive amounts of electronic equipment. All in all, this is not a must-have product. But it is not useless either. As a bonus, the cable splitter is quite nice. The carrying pouch is average; I threw mine away. |
