Ok, so I'm 17 and when I saw this game for 4 dollars here on Amazon, I thought I'd give it a go. The game arrived in perfect condition and I couldn't wait to play it. At first, I had thought I'd be able make my own monster and run around killing other strange beasts but this game is more "structured". First of all, let me say that the battles are a bit more like Pokemon since you take turns fighting.
Anyway, I have only played this game once and for about an hour so I can't give an in depth view on the entire game. I was most impressed with the graphics. The game kind of has this awesome dark, almost Tim Burton sort of feel. There is this Lab where you can mix parts and uses tools and...Well, loads of other stuff but I wasn't really paying attention to the Mad Scientist guy who was telling me what was up. I did the first mission where you help out this mayor guy fight off a crazy monster in town. It was easy and I look forward to the more challenging stuff. So yeah...There isn't too much non-stop action going on but it's something that will definately keep me occupied since I want to find out what happens in the end (there is a whole storyline thing going). One last thing I should point out is the Instruction Manual I got was in French. Yes, I obviously know English, some Spanish, even some Latin and Italian...Yet I don't know French. I was worried that I wouldn't know the controls at all but luckily, there are characters in the game who speak English and tell you how to do everything. It could be just my game that got French instructions but I advise you pay attention to what the people tell you.

Son's words: I really like the game. I liked to create my own monsters. And I also like to name them. The characters are really funny. I like the cartoonic graphics. (Age 9).

Every once and again a title comes along that was probably designed for kids, but has plenty of grown-up appeal all the same. Playing Monster Lab is kind of like watching Shrek. It's a cartoon, so it's for kids, right? but not really. Monster Lab offers a reasonable depth of strategy, a variety of fun mini-games, and near endless replay-ability as you tinker with the perfect monster designs and hunt down the necessary parts to make them. The combat mechanism is fairly simple, but there is a definite strategy to each fight, one that varies according to the threat each part of your rival poses, and their weaknesses (the rock-paper-scissors mechanism of mechanical, biological, and alchemical parts). This game fits neatly into my, "yeah, I've got 30-60 minutes or so" niche. I expect to be enjoying it for a long time to come. But make no mistake, you will feel rather dumb at parts listening to Professor Fuseless, the insipid mayor, or any of the other countless dialogues in the game. 2115|RA94NUU2N9IME;2115|R15LBXVJT7PO4R;2115|R3RXCM7Z4C140T;
