It worked,
This review is from: Monster Cable MP HTS400 HP HT PowerCenter HTS400 (Electronics)
About two years ago lightening hit my phone line and destroyed everything that wasn't protected. My computer was connected through a Belkin Surgemaster and was spared. My satellite receiver was fried and the surge fed back out to the dish and also fried the LNB. After that I purchased an HTS 400 because besides the electrical connections, it also has phone line and satellite cable protection. I only gave it 4 stars because I couldn't see a difference in my TV reception. Last week I had an electrical malfunction which sent 240 through two circuits in my house. The HTS 400 was sacrificed but everything connected was spared. I will be getting a replacement for it but this time I'll get it from Amazon for half the price that I paid for the first one at Best Buy.

I originally bought this product 2 yrs ago, when I purchased a new & expensive HDTV for the home. I thought it was a good "starter" unit, which included more than enough power and coaxial outlets. In fact, I would even argue that it has too many coaxial outlets--I mean, who really uses CATV, satellite, AND VHF/UHF? Anyway, more recently, I purchased the MTS400 again for a relative, who also upgraded to an HDTV set.
From a technical perspective, it's hard to say whether the Monster Clean Power(tm) Stage 1 v2.0 filter is really making a difference in providing "noise-free power to [my] sensitive electronic components." I'm not an engineer by training, so I'll have to take Monster's word at it and assume it's not some cheap gimmick. Also, I suppose the "high level of surge protection" advertised by Monster is not really one of those claims you can verify until after the fact. However, if my house ever gets hit by a freak electrical storm, I'll let you know how the HTS400 stands up. Overall, I'm quite satisfied with this product (thus far...).

I have this item hooked up to my Sony flat panel TV and two recorders since April 2007 when I purchased it from Amazon. I have had several power outs and this has protected me when the power came back on when I was not at home or at home. I have had a $300 electron item destroyed because I did not have this type of protection. This is money well spent if you would get some type of a power surge protector. Item was purchased from Amazon and it came ahead of the promised shipping time. I have purchased over a dozen items from Amazon and have not had any problems to this day.
Update: Just want to say item still works perfectly and never any problems with it. September 3, 2011.

Nice, sturdy design. Doesn't flip on its side like narrow surge protectors do, and it has a nice long cord so it can be positioned around your entertainment center wherever you want it. Also, plugs are color coded to make it easier to figure out which cord is what.

This is a great product for a TV with all the extras. I have several Monster products; they are all really good. Worth the money.

I have been using this for several years. I use it for my living room home theater system which includes a receiver, dvd player, cable box, & plasma. I have run the cable feed through it, but don't use any of the other coax outlets - does anyone really need this many? Since I haven't been hit by lightning, I can't say if it works to protect equipment. I have had a few brown outs and nothing was damaged. The cord is quite long 10ft or so and has a funny plug that sits at a 45 degree angle. At least it isn't a massive power block. There is a master power switch on the side. The fact that the four outlets are at different orientations means that you can actually plug in four things without them crowding each other out.
I do wish that I had bought one with a few extra outlets. Four is probably the bare minimum anyone would need.

Product works great. Compact design. Would be nice if it had some sort of mounting bracket, so that it could be mounted vertically, like on a wall. I would recommend this product.

I can rest assured that my new HDTV is being protected. I like this surge protector because it protects both my cable and antenna coaxial connections. It has antenna, cable, and satellite coax protection circuits which I like a lot. Just look at the technical details on this site.
The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I am sick and tired of everything being manufactured in China. I prefer to buy things that are made in the USA but that is getting almost impossible to do these days. |
