Monster does not honor it's own guarantee,
By
This review is from: Monster Cable MPHDP850G GreenPower 8-Outlets Surge Suppressor (Electronics)
I purchased this to protect a ~$2000 52inch tv from surges, etc., at the same time I purchased the tv. I chose this partly because of the specifications and partially because it boasted a product protection guarantee. I installed it as specified in the directions (not that it's complicated, but wanted to ensure I was properly protected) and everything worked fine. About 4 months later, during a thunderstorm, my house was hit by a surge and the power went out. When the power came back on, neither this "power center" nor the tv worked, apparently fried from the surge. I contacted Monster and submitted my claim to them per their specifications. I submitted their forms completed, estimates for repair and mailed them the fried unit. About 9 weeks later, I received a letter from them stating they examined the unit and found it to be damaged (duh), but they were not going to pay for the damage to my They were not clear on the reason why, only that they were not even willing to return the burnt unit I had sent them (it was still under warranty!), and that they were unwilling to pay for the damage it allowed to happen to my tv. I registered a complaint with the better business bureau and the New York State Consumer Protection Board, and Monster, for the most part, ignored the complaints. I don't have to think twice before writing Monster off as a company whose products I will avoid. Refusing to honor a guarantee or warranty is even more offensive than having a product that fails, and Monster has clearly demonstrated their apathy towards their customers' opinions.

Only 3 "Green Power" Outlets out of 8?,
By
This review is from: Monster Cable MPHDP850G GreenPower 8-Outlets Surge Suppressor (Electronics)
I purchased this as an upgrade from my 6 outlet Greenpower surge protector to the 8 outlets. Upon arrival I discovered that only 3 of the outlets are "green" meaning they cut vampire power draw. The other five continuously pull power, defeating the point of buying this specific model. If you have a lot of components to your home theater (I have an AV Receiver, TV, DVD, 2 video game systems, DVR and subwoofer), you are going to have to sit down and calculate which draw the most power. What person needs 5 components to ALWAYS have power?
I certainly take blame for not finding this info out before buying, but come on, Monster. The 6-outlet surge protector I have has 4 green power slots.

This product's awesome.
Plugged TV (samsung ln52b750) as the control unit. Added Receiver (onkyo txsr607), Subwoofer (harman kardon hkts18), and PS3 as the switched units. Only the TV stays on standby, all switched units are completely off. When I turn on the TV, the Receiver turns on (not just standby but actually on:) and the subwoofer turns on automatically! The cool thing is, the PS3 does not turn on, goes on standby, which is what I want since I don't necessarily want to use the PS3 everytime.

This is a great protection for TV only. I tried pluging in my WII and other components to the green power side. the WII started acting funny, not turning on. I thinking the green power circuitry does something to output power that causes certain components to malfunction.

I originally wanted one of the larger power conditioners that Monster offered, but it wasn't in my budget. I'm just as happy with this though. Easy to set up and works like a charm. Plus I got it $30 cheaper on Amazon as opposed to buying it at Best Buy. Can't really complain.

Don't go cheap spend the extra money for this surge protector it is worth it. It filters out the white/dirty noise that comes through power lines. It is green and conserves power, it has specific named outlets so you know where to plug things in. Standby power is turned off on items that don't need it and items that do like DVR have a specific outlet to plug into so the standby power can stay on for recording. This thing is great it does not effect your normal operating procedures at all.

I had an old Monster Power surge protector that I wanted to replace, so I couldn't pass on the deal. Everything works, the labels make it easy, but beware if you use a Logitech Harmony Remote, that you'll have to move some plugs around to get everything to turn on in the correct sequence.I had my TV (50" Viera), Dish Network Box, & Onkyo H/T Receiver plugged in the 'Green Power' outlets. In my case, the Receiver had to be on before the TV or Box would turn on. The Harmony Remote sends power to the TV first, then the Dish/Cable box. What this amounts to was not having everything turned on using the 'Watch TV' function. My fix was to mess with the plugs until everything worked. I just ended up with some things plugged into outlets that are labeled for something else (according to Monster). Overall, I have no problems...I've always trusted my electronics to Monster.

Excellent option for stereo receivers that don't have switched outlets, which seems to be a lot of them these days.

Great product that was easy to use. Really shuts down all media when I use my universal remote - so less power is consumed on standby. Great green product.

Very easy to use, nice look as well! I like the idea that I can plug in my gaming systems and have them turned completely off when I turn the tv off. I would recommend this product to anyone who doesn't want to spend alot of money on a power conditioner/surge protector but wants something that will definitely protect your investments.
