Give it a try if you want to play with your kids (7 years and up!),

With reviews like this, it's like people go to McDonalds and expect Lobster and Steak to be on the menu! This game I bought years ago and didn't do much with it. Then my daughters grew old enough to enjoy this without getting nightmares, so we played it over many hours and had so much fun for the past couple of weeks! My daughters begged to play with me every day for the past two weeks. We finally beat it today. Yes, you will be frustrated, sometimes by the game challenges, and sometimes by the controls, and yes, vehicles sometimes get stuck, but there's always a solution, even if it means ultimately resetting the level. But it doesn't screw up so often that it isn't worth the experience. And yes, my daughters can't wait to play it all over again on the next difficulty level. Entertaining story line. This game doesn't take itself so seriously, so lighten up people! I'd love them to come out with a Monster Madness 2. It's well worth the money for a bargain buy.

Like this title suggests, I bought this game used. Which I'm glad I didn't pay full price for, because it would be a rip off.
If you want a cheap game multiplayer game to waste some time between good game releases, then this is a game for you. You can play co-op with up to 4 people online as well. Levels get very repetitive. Easier setting is no fun with limited fun items. The catch is you have to play harder settings for the chance to find find items like amulets that change you into monsters. But the hard setting is no fun either, you're constantly looking for ammo and health. Another thing that sucks is you can't save when you want and can only do so at save points. Finally one thing that irked me tremendously: If you accidentally exit a game, not only do you lose your current progress, but your ENTIRE GAME PROGRESS. It happened to us, and lost everything. The game was basically reset. We just past the second level, so it could have been worse.

Another game I got based on a cheap price and other reviews. The one thing that got me excited though was it's throwback homage to Zombies Ate My Neighbor on the SNES. It's not as good as Zombies, but it's okay and warrants a purchase if you can find it under $10. The graphics are good, but not Great or Next Gen and the controls are pretty decent. So if you are looking for some Zombies ate my Neighbor action on your XBox this is as close as you will get.

I was very disappointed in Monster Madness. I thought it was going to be a combination of Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Dead Rising, and Resident Evil, unfortunately the sad truth comes in to place once you start playing the game. It has an overabundance of weapons, vehicles, characters, zombies, and destruction which should make it good, but it comes up short most of the time when comparing it to its great zombie predecessors. For instance, the controls can be agonizingly bad during certain gaming sequences like driving. The basic movements work fine most of the time, but the camera is a hassle during times when you're killing zombies. The graphics claim to use the power of Unreal Engine 3 which powered the awesome Gears of War, but it looks freaking awful on this game to the point of where it looks like a muddy old Xbox or Playstation 2 game. I had many hopes for this game, but it came up short and I was left disappointed and somewhat agitated. Just go buy Dead Rising instead for your 360, you'll be much happier.

An old-school arcade-type beat-em-up,

An old-school arcade-type beat-em-up, "Monster Madness" tries to appeal to the same kind of frantic multiplayer action that defined games like the Ninja Turtles games. It's campy as heck, and fun for a little while. It doesn't have much lasting value though.
In "Monster Madness", up to four players take the role of teenagers fighting to defend themselves against hordes of zombies and monsters. There are, accordingly, four characters - the nerd, the goth girl, the stoner, and the blonde. Each has their own special weapon, though the stages are littered with more generic improvised weapons that every player can use - furniture, power tools, guns, etc. Weapons can also be upgraded by finding tools and money in levels. Gameplay is furious and frantic, as befits the game's style. However, it's largely definable as wading through seas of enemies in one way or another. The game is really chaotic to the point of unrecognizability, which adds to the theme of the game but detracts from actual gameplay quality. There are bright colors to distinguish players and so on, but it still largely ends up as a big muddled mess - for better or for worse. It's clear multiplayer antics are the game's main draw, though. The graphics are okay, and the sound is at least suitable for the game's feel. The quips get old pretty quickly, but if you're the kind of person who finds them funny, it might be worth it anyways. "Monster Madness: Battle for Suburbia" doesn't feel like a full game. It feels like a game that ought to be on the XBOX Live arcade or something. It's not bad, but it's not a full-quality game either. If you see it cheap, it could be worth picking up. As a full-price game, though, it doesn't stack up. Rating: 5/10 Monster Madness: Battle for Suburbia was purchased by us from a gaming store, with our own money. We were not compensated in any way for this review.

it's still a kid heavy game. Battle system is quite simple. You walk around smashing the buttons to kill bad monsters. Weapon system was a strong point in the game, finding items and creating a weapon out of them. I would avoid this game.

This single game that you can also play with a friend is pretty fun, and is similar to Marvel Ultimate Alliance except it's a city filled with zombie/undead. The controls and character movements/shooting is a bit clunky and would have been a much better game if those issues were not present. I got the game brand new for only about $5 so that was awesome; but I would not pay close to $10 (including shipping) for this game, new or used.

I bought this game with some kind of expectations of it being like the classic Zombies ate my neighbors. I was sadly disapointed. I did not play it in multiplayer mode which many have argued is what the game is made for, however the single player was monotonous and boring. The game seemed to be very challenging in places that were probably not intended to be. Poor controls and screen views caused much frustration. Finally, the achievements were ridiculously hard to attain. I plan on selling my game for the one or two dollars I can get for it at game stop.

One of the many interesting points with the Xbox 360 is the amazing detail and graphics the console itself provides. Another is the 3-D effects and the "go inside the game" ability.
The makers of this game failed miserably to see these reasons as opportunities to make a better game. I honestly think they slapped this one together and threw it on the shelf before anyone had time to tell them just how awful it was! The effects stink, the gameplay is awful, the controls are very difficult to figure out and the players move in awkward and hard to maneuver ways. I played this game for about an hour and had to take some tylenol from the headache. The headache caused by screaming as the screen and looking at my bank balance and wishing I had never purchased this game at all. |
