If you are a frequent traveler, I'm sure you've encountered this - several people trying to plug their laptops into a single power outlet at an airport. Or you get to a hotel and there's just one free outlet (or none!).

For a while I've been carrying a "liberator" 1-foot extension cord with two sockets, but when I saw the Monster Outlets To Go advertised, I liked it as a better solution.

The Outlets To Go 3 is compact and lightweight. As indicated, it has three grounded power outlets, two on one side and one on the other, a handy design for use with bulky power adapters. The short power cord wraps around the outlets and plugs securely into one of them. A bonus is that the cord exits the plug from the side so it won't block an outlet.

The materials are all first-rate and the power cord uses heavy duty 14 gauge wire. My only gripe, and it is a very minor one, is that I think this could have been made just a teensy bit thinner, but maybe not... It drops into my laptop bag very nicely. Well, maybe one other gripe - like a lot of products nowadays, the Outlets To go is overpackaged, with a huge plastic clamshell.

There is also a four-outlet version, but three is the right number for me. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product, nice size and good price, March 19, 2008

Just as other reviewers have said, this 3 outlet to go powerstrip is just awesome. I disagree that it could have been made a little smaller; any smaller and I think it would take away from the robustness plus it's absolutely tiny considering it has 3 outlets! Why knock it slightly for the size when you say it fits so nicely in your bag? Speaking of size, I had to research the actual dimensions myself before purchasing, so here they are for your convenience:

Dimensions: 4.75 x 2.25 x 1.8

It is very handy for travel when you have multiple devices to plug in, whether it's laptops, cell phones, ipod/mp3 players, cameras, and the like. I have always carried along a regular 6 outlet strip but it was always so bulky and cumbersome, plus I never really needed more than 3 outlets. I really like the "FlatProfile Plug" and "FlatWrap Cord", as they make for neat and compact storage but you also don't have to worry about the plug not having room or getting bent if the only outlet is behind the mattress in the hotel room!

The price point is also nice; Amazon had the best price I found at $11.99 as of this review. Be aware that other sizes and colors are available to meet your needs if 3 outlets and/or black is not what you want or need. There is a 4 outlet and 6 outlet version and they come in black, white, silver.

This is a great product for traveling in general but even more so for traveling internationally. I spend roughly 10 weeks a year outside the US and I carry two computers and a phone charger. Now I only need one set of plug adapters and I can run all three. I plug the power power into the adapter and now I have US outlets for up to three devices where ever I am.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor powerstrip for International travel and missing the "resettable circuit breaker", July 17, 2009

In preparation for my trip to India, I wanted a reliable power setup to recharge my various electronics while there. I prefer something with a circuit breaker other than a fuse, because you never know if you can find a replacement fuse while travelling. (A lot of plug adaptors have a fuse, like the Tripshell International All-in-One Travel Plug Adapter With Surge Protection) I ended up purchasing Samsonite Grounded Adaptor Plug - India which is a simple, plain, built for India adaptor.

I also purchased the Outles To Go 3 and received it a few days ago and noticed that the retail package matches the product description, specifically noting the "... prevents overloads with its resettable circuit breaker."

Well, I pulled it out of the packaging to look for the circuit breaker and couldn't find it. I noticed a tag is around the cord and it states among other safety things: "* This powerstrip is not a surge protector."

Additionally imprinted on the plastic the electrical ratings:
"15A, 125V/AC, 60Hz"

Unfortunately this power rating only works in the U.S.
This information is not published on Amazon's or on the manufacturer's site.

I tried to Inquire details to Monster using their email support, but no word back in 3 days.

Unless your use for this is purely domestic, this is a POOR powerstrip for International travel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Small and convenient for travel, but NO circuit breaker..., September 11, 2009

The literature on the product cover is misleading. It does NOT have a resettable circuit breaker and therefore offers NO protection against those nasty power surges and spikes. (So it would be wise to unplug it during a thunderstorm).

That said, this device is as small as you can get for a three-outlet power strip and is particularly beneficial when you travel (for example, if you are in an airport and need to charge your laptop and your cellphone).

If you need surge protection (recommended for sensitive devices like projectors) then I highly recommend buying a portable surge protector like the Tripp Lite TRAVELER Protect It! Surge Protector/Suppressor 2 outlets (2 Transformers). For Laptop Use, Direct Plug-In 1050 Joules or similar ones by Belkin or APC.

For international travel (220V countries) consider the Tripshell International All-in-One Travel Plug Adapter With Surge Protection - Retail Package. If your devices is rated 110V only (for example, a hair dryer) you will need to buy a step down power transformer. (Thankfully, most portable electronic devices like laptops, cellphone and camera chargers can operate on dual voltage (110V and 220V). But always remember to check the power rating on your device).

In the short time I've owned this, I've used it many times. Once, in the airport during a long flight delay and again in a few hotel rooms where there were more cell phones that needed to be charged then available outlets. When you travel with 3 other people and we all have cell phones that need to be charged, not to mention camera batteries and laptops, this is an great device. Small, functional and useful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great travel item, July 12, 2008

This is my second purchase of one of these. They are great for travel for those who, like myself, carry a computer, cell phone, bluetooth earpiece, etc., all of which need to be recharged in hotel rooms that don't have enough outlets. And it's nice to have them all recharging in one spot as opposed to all over the hotel room and bathroom, which can make them easy to leave behind.

This little unit is well built & compact. I lost my first one at a trade show where I needed an emergency powerstrip, so ran up to my room and got the first one I had bought. The guys who later tore down the show "forgot" to return it to me, therefore my second purchase. I guess they thought it was a pretty cool little item, too.

If you travel frequently, this is a lifesaver. Hotels almost never have enough outlets for all your gear. This solves the issue in a tiny size package that disappears in a laptop bag or briefcase. It's one of the best travel purchases I have ever made.

But beware pricing errors - the manufacturer's suggested retail price is only $14.95, and Amazon was selling them for $11.95 last month. Now suddenly they are $17 here and Amazon claims the MSRP is $26. Not true, it's still $14.95 on the manufacturers web site. Hopefully this is just an error and it will be fixed - if not, buy it from somewhere else, or from one of the other Amazon partners who sell it here for around $10.

Wide enough to plug 3 AC adapters in at once, small enough to fit anywhere, this is the ultimate travel power strip.

We travel by motorcycle, so size IS important! We also travel to remote locations, where Holiday Inn isn't an option.

Older hotel rooms usually have only one or two open plugs, and I hate having things plugged into 3 different locations in the room - it makes leaving in the morning feel like an easter egg hunt for my expensive electronics!

The Moster strip keeps the phones, MP3 players and GPS all in one spot. Perfect!

The Outlets To Go Powerstrip is a convenient way to provide extra outlets. In addition to it's small size the surprising thing about the powerstrip is that it is very light. I recommend it for anyone that spends time in hotels where extra power outlets can be difficult to find.
