4.0 out of 5 stars Watch us dance!-Living dead
I agree with the last reviewer, this game is just a trippy cult classic. At first,I didn't like it either, but it gradually grew on me.

The bosses really made this game great, and one of those bosses was one called Living Dead-Zombies From Japan. The comment they made to you was "Watch us dance".So these kimono wearing undead would dance to this oriental music.If...

3.0 out of 5 stars 3.5 stars - a decent monster platform game
I haven't played this game in 20 years but I remember it thanks to my cousin who was younger than me and at the time got it as a birthday gift. Eventually, he let me borrow it for 3 weeks and I had plenty of time to kill. Monster Party was released by Bandai (now known as Bandai Namco)and actually had a cult following because it was such an oddball of a game. While some...

I agree with the last reviewer, this game is just a trippy cult classic. At first,I didn't like it either, but it gradually grew on me.

The bosses really made this game great, and one of those bosses was one called Living Dead-Zombies From Japan. The comment they made to you was "Watch us dance".So these kimono wearing undead would dance to this oriental music. If you attacked them, they would just turn to dust and ressurect seconds later. All you had to do was, well, watch them dance and you would win.Very original
for it's time.

Some of the other cool bosses were punk rocker, black cat, medusa
and elephant man.If memory serves,I think in the last stage you fight the grim reaper and he says something like "welcome to hell".

If there is any downside to this game,I would say it's the boss battle music. It's like a really, really fast 50's style bebop and it get's pretty annoying after hearing it loop over and over. The music for stage 3 however is very cool and eerie.

Monster Party also has one of the best twist endings for the nes.Although I was never really good at this game, all I can say is that when push comes to shove,a game genie solves everything!

This title is great for collectors and vintage game players alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars NES HORROR MOVIE!!!!!!, May 25, 2009

This game is awesome. If you're a big horror fan like me, you'll love this game. It's drenched in pixleized blood, green slime, and includes some of the most bizarre of boss stage enemies. I f you're planning on getting this for a little kid, don't. There is some disturbing stuff. (for an NES game). Mountains of demons heads drooling blood, it's just awesome. If you're a collector, don't miss this one!!!!!!!

Compatible with the FC TWIN. Truly beautiful graphics for an NES game. Spooky and Humorous in many different ways, But suffers From Cliche's in the story line. Overall it is an awesome game from the Horrifying monsters to the giant floating shrimp. Rather difficult at first but NES always was good for challenging you. If you were born in the Late 90's or early 2000's and you Buy this game, its not like these Violent 3D games these days, its the Classic 2D platformer i came to know and love as a child. Good Game however.

3.0 out of 5 stars 3.5 stars - a decent monster platform game, September 30, 2011

While some parts of it kept it from being a must own, it had charm and plenty of challenges that made people at least give it a look before moving on.

You control a little boy who got transported into a world where monsters of all variety rule. It's controlled by one big bad monster who was responsible for making their world such a horrible place to live in. The little boy befriended a "good" monster that promised to help him out on his way. Eight stages waited for you to navigate through, each with its own boss at the end. Your main weapon is your bat, which you use to kill the monsters and to deflect enemy bullets and particles right back at them. There are "pellets" that you can collect and when you get enough, you transform into the "good" monster, who is cross between a bat and a gargoyle. He is a bit stronger than the boy, can shoot laser beams and can fly around but you only have a few seconds before you change back into the boy. This game play element throws in a little strategy as he can be useful in certain situations.

The PROS: This game looked like it was made for the kids as it involves monsters and all that good stuff but once you play it, there's a lot more going on. The stages are set up quite nicely and all of the monsters look decent and most of them ooze with blood, slime and other bodily substances that it caught you off guard. Some even took on the forms of food! The music is surprisingly catchy ranging from cheery to dark & spooky and it captures the overall mood of the game. The controls are easy enough and for those who wanted a challenge definitely saw it in this game; a password system was available which meant you had to copy it whenever you wanted to stop and continue playing later.

The CONS: The overall presentation was fine but the graphics were okay then. There were other games that looked better and depending on what kind of games you liked to play, Monster Party was one of those games that flew under most people's radar. Also, I said earlier that this game was challenging; that was a understatement. You had to stock up your lives as some stages were really brutal and one in particular sent you back to the beginning if you went into the wrong room to fight enemies.

Monster Party was a very, very unique game. Fans of horror movies flocked to this game as it appeared to pay a homage and make fun of the horror culture in general. Everyone else stuck to other games and it's a shame because while the graphics were okay looking and some areas of the game were brutally difficult, it was still a decent platform game. If you got your NES working or bought the new "retro" systems floating around online and want to try out a game that was ignored by most people, check out the YouTube videos and see for yourself before you try to search for a used copy.

i bought this game per the request of my girlfriend. she apparently had fond memories of playing it as a child. in my time with the game i was unimpressed by it. the game was repetitious and really graphically unappealing. in a possitive note the game was a little humorous. humorous when it was trying to be like fighting giant fried foods, and at times when it wasn't, like the rest of the time. even for these funny moments i would not recommend this game.
