More About the Author

S. Michael Wilson was born in Rochester, New York, and raised in New Jersey, where the weak are killed and eaten. He is now in his mid-thirties and resides in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, which is intentionally within fleeing distance from Pennsylvania.

He has held a number of jobs throughout his life. Starting out as a stock boy at the now-defunct Woolworth's, he went on to manage a comic book store, sort mail at the United States Postal Service, run the projection booths at various movie theaters throughout New Jersey, test underground fuel tanks, act as production assistant at two Miss America Pageants and the 1994 Presidential Gala at Ford's Theater, and fill the role of Backroom Team Lead at Target. Up until recently, he was a senior associate at The Light House, a film & television sound stage and lighting rental house based out of Central New Jersey, where he had worked for the past 15 years. Now, along with over ten percent of the US population, he is currently 'between gigs'.

During all of these jobs, throughout all of the years, he wrote.

In the early 90's, he published an underground humor zine, The Mongoloid Moose, which gained a small but loyal fanbase through it's thirty-six issue run. Since then, he has worked in various writing formats; short stories, screenplays, book and movie reviews, and he has even tried his hand at blogging. He has attempted poetry twice, and has since been told that there should never be a third attempt.

Most recently, he was approached by Idea Men Publications (IMP). Having dealt mainly with true-crime, IMP was looking to branch out into other forms of popular entertainment, and asked him to collaborate on some books with horror and science fiction films as the major theme. The first product of this collaboration, Monster Rally, which S. Michael Wilson both edited and contributed to, has a release date scheduled for late October. Other IMP projects, including an examination of Bela Lugosi films adapted from classic literature, are due out in the near future.

On top of his work with IMP, S. Michael Wilson has several projects in the works. Among these are a book dedicated to bad movies, a future series of audio commentaries, and a collection of articles from his humor zine, The Mongoloid Moose. Negotiations are also in the works regarding the production of a screenplay co-written with Charles Rowe.

S. Michael Wilson almost never talks in third-person, but will do so when provoked.

You have been warned.

5.0 out of 5 stars A quick fix for monster junkies, January 16, 2009
This review is from: Monster Rally (Paperback)

Because you have clicked this link for product info for MONSTER RALLY I would discern you must be a monster movie fan, and a heartily recommend this book to any and all monster movie fans. But it should be noted that the term "Monster" in the title of this book covers a really broad area. Scattered among the more traditional essays on Jackson's King Kong, Dark Shadows and Lovecraft, Jason and Freddy, Yeti films, 50s' sci-fi, Lugosi's Rue Morgue and the like are more esoteric genres: UFOs, Satanism on screen, Mexican wrestling flicks, Hollywood weirdness, serial killers and their celluloid counterparts, fx maestro Paul Blaisdell and an informative chapter on how Argento "stole" the plot for THE BIRD WITH THE CRYSTAL PULMAGE from Fredric Brown's novel SCREAMING MIMI. I thought the blending of "psychotronic-like" topics and classic monsters gave the book great flavor and ensured an unpredictable, yet highly enjoyable read.

5.0 out of 5 stars If your taste in film gravitates towards the strange and sinister..., January 2, 2009
This review is from: Monster Rally (Paperback)
If you ever built an Aurora Dracula monster model kit, wore a Don Post Tor Johnson mask (Halloween doesn't count), or own 100 plus consecutive issues of Famous Monsters magazine, then allow me to recommend Monster Rally and its twenty diverse articles that runs the gambit from A (Argento) to Z (Zombies) as a must have in every B-Movie fan's library.

5.0 out of 5 stars R.I.P. 4SJ, February 11, 2009
By
Peter (New Mexico) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Monster Rally (Paperback)
I bought Monster Rally and a few other horror film books after the death of Forrest (4SJ) J Ackerman. Famous Monsters magazine was a big influence on me growing up in the 60s and I wanted to recapture some of that childhood magic. Although this book sports a cover similar to FM the articles are more insightful but still have that FM "fun" energy ot it. Monster Rally is sure to please any, say Bob Burns would say, "Monster Kid."
