Sending an undisciplined monster into the arena is a recipe for failure, so much of our playing time involved training our creations and watching them develop into lethal, confident juggernauts. No two monsters are the same, and each develops its own unique personality as the game progresses. We became more attached to this game's creations than other games in the genre because of this well-executed feature. --T. Byrl Baker

This review is from: Monster Rancher 2 (Video Game)
I am TOTALLY addicted to this game! I've played many monster raising RPGs, but this one beats them all! The gameplay isn't long and boring, and the graphics are cool! The idea of the game is that you are a begginning monster trainer, and you have to raise the ultimate monster to compete in the major four, a set of the top hardest tournaments (I know, sounds a lot like poke'mon's Elite Four, but trust me, its different.) There are three ways to get new monsters, you can generate one from a CD, buy one at the market, or combine to of them to get a new one. I liked the combining part because the game tells you what chance you have of getting a good monster. After you obtain a monster, you take it to you ranch to be trained. You can increase it's stats, let it rest, or enter a battle tournament. The battles are very cool because they are simple without being easy. You control which direction you r monster moves, when it attacks and when, and ultimately how powerful its attacks are. The game gets more complex toward the end at a good pace. The plot lacks a little creativity, but that is quickly forgotten as one can easily get completely obsessed with this game.

I know that this game will get bashed for being like Pokemon. However, the first Monster Rancher came out in America 8 months before Pikachu. Now, this is a great game. Once you get the idea of how to play it (which isn't very hard at all), you'll become instantly addicted. Not for those with little time on their hands. Only problem is finding the rare components that will allow you to make the truly powerful monster. A great gift for kids. I can't recommend this enough.

I enjoy this game alot because of the emazing variety of monsters and the use of your outher C.D's to get more monsters. I enjoyed training my creatures and scolding or praseing my monster after training.
