Monster Cable SS-6 Speaker Selector 137569-00 System Selectors

From the Manufacturer

Distributing Audio

In today's life style distributing audio throughout your home is in more demand than ever. Being able to play music while lounging on the patio is more common place than luxury. However, simply connecting an extra speaker to an amplifier is not the solution, as its speakers added to an amp the resistance (also known as impedance) is lowered and amplifiers have a limit as to how low of a resistance they can handle. Extra speakers cause the impedance (ohms) to drop, stressing the amp beyond its limits. When this situation exists damage to the circuitry, amp shutdown, and even the risk of the amp burning up and catching fire can occur. This is a high price to play for music enjoyment., however, the impedance (ohms) may drop stressing the amp beyond its limits. When this situation exists damage to the circuitry, amp shutdown, and even the risk of teh amp burning up and catching fire can occur. This is a high price to pay for music enjoyment.

Using a speaker selector can avoid damaging your amp, however ordinary speaker selectors use resistors in series which limit the high frequencies so you hear less detail in the music. Additionally, they have a low power and current rating, use of a high current amp will damage the selector over time.

Convenience, Performance and Protection

Monster Speaker Selectors feature Advanced Power Protection circuitry that is made with high-quality materials for maximum reliability and durability. When engaged, this impedance matched circuitry maximizes high-power amplifier performance and allows you to safely use up to four speaker pairs simultaneously. The precision crafted, non-inductive, 50 watt resistors with aluminum finned heat sinks improve frequency response, thus, delivering fuller, more three-dimensional music reproduction. As you expect all connections to the circuitry are completely wired with high performance for Monster cables for the best possible sound...

Get All The Performance You Paid For

With Monster Cable Speaker Selector, you'll be able to enjoy music anywhere in the house, while protecting your amplifier from damage and maximizi

I have limited budget for audio and I wanted to run speakers to a porch, two sets to a patio and another set in my kitchen. I connected this device to the "B" speakers on my Yamaha reciever. I thought I'd give this thing a try, but I was pretty skeptical because I have a variety of speakers and they are at various distances from my reciever. The farthest pair is over 120 feet away and I put a volume control on the end. I was pretty sure that would not work, but it works very well. The sound is really good even though the signal travels through this thing and 120 feet of wire and a volume control. The next thing I was afraid of is that all the sound would disapear or the quality would drop dramatically when I turned on all the speakers, but when I turned them all on there was no noticable loss of power to any speaker.

I'm highly pleased with the utility of the monster speaker selector. Connections are easy, logical, and the sound does not appear degraded at all. Make sure you always have the protection button engaged. Without it, my amp shut down.

The SS6 is a good way to run speakers to other rooms and outdoors

This six pair speaker selector switch replaced a piece of junk I had unfortunately purchased from Radio Shack. The old switch had bleed-through to non-selected speakers, which sort of defeats the purpose.

The monster switch works as it should - sound only from selected speakers. It also looks nice, with an attractive black coated aluminum housing, and the switches seem to be of good quality. The connectors in the back are a little bit awkward if you don't plan to use the "gold plated pins" that monster would like to sell you, which I don't. Copper is a good enough conductor, thank you.

For non-critical, multi-room, single zone audio, these get the job done and are priced right.

I installed two of these in a home where the previous owner took the amp and switches when they sold. The existing volume controls were non-impedance matching and I didn't perform any measurements, but two of these switches with 11 pairs of speakers enabled presented a manageable load to the 150wpc 2 channel amp allowing hours of continuous use without forcing the amp into thermal shut down.

I should also point out to others that these are impedance matching, not volume matching, they average out the electrical load placed on the amplifier. This is important because if you have different speakers with different sensitivities (dbl/wm), you will end up with different apparent audio levels in different rooms (I should have thought to explain that to this customer before hand).

The problem with my amp shutting down from my old speaker splitter due to impedance loss has been completely resolved with the Monster SS-6 multiple speaker selector. I am running up to 5 pair of speakers from my one amp. Of course, if the protection button on the SS-6 is turned off then the amp shuts down again. Leave the protection button turned on. This is a great product and the sound quality remains very good as well.

Simple to hook up and operate.
Does not seem to degrade sound quality at all.
Can run 6 sets of speakers simultaniously without degradation of sound quality or volume.
Can run 6 sets of speakers simultaniously without amplifier overheating.

This is the third unit that I have purchased (for 3 differnt houses) and they all have performed flawlessly.

I've had this thing for quite a while now and it still works perfectly. Sound is good. Volume on each speaker decreases as you turn more speakers on, but how could it not (it's not an amp)? Bought it used too! Can't believe I didn't get this much sooner!

The Monster Cable SS-6 Speaker is a great product, at first I thought it would help me to connect my 3 additional speakers, but to my surprise it was able to connect 12 speakers! (6 sets of two/audio-area), this is something great for the price it costs.
