Monsterican Greatness,
By Mike Sehorn "Rezo the Dezo" (APO, AE United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Monster Show (Bonus Dvd) (Audio CD)
One may say that after only two albums, it's too early for a 'best of' CD...but if you're a fan, it's never too early!
Enter Lordi: a wonderful mix of '80s-esque Alice Cooper, AC/DC, and Twisted Sister, coupled with their own brand of ball-bashing, take-no-prisoners hard rock. This is not a black/death-metal album, but an amazing rebirth of the never-gone style that raged before the pop years. The package is accompanied by a DVD of all Lordi's music videos released to date of the compilation - "Would You Love A Monsterman?", "Devil Is A Loser", and "Blood Red Sandman" (if you've had to live with the less-than-perfect quality they appear in on Lordi's homepage, you'll appreciate the need for a clear picture of these three short horror-spectacles). Indeed, Lordi is here, and the Finnish Monsters don't tend to dissapoint. Prepare for hell-raising and bone-mashing in a way that you never have before, and relish in the jaws of the Manbeast in your final moments.

Fabulous,

Look... I never heard of Lordi before the Eurovision Contest 2006. I thought they would obtain just a few votes, as the show is usually full of awful pop songs and miserable singers. But then, they made History. Not only they won, but they won with style. Their show was brilliant, the outfits, the music, the attitude and the pyro. And in the press-conference, Lordi was clever, his speech was interesting. Talking about a victory for Rock fans (he added 'Kiss fans' !) but more for open-mindness. No, Lordi will NOT change the face of Rock Music. Though the songs are perfectly crafted and full of strong melodies, the most important lies in the way they changed forever the attitude of millions of people (100 millions usually watch the Euro show) who never heard such music before. Kids all over Europe now will want to buy the Lordi Action Figures, CD's and maybe learn guitar or drums. Older will realise that Rock can be fun, that in show-buisness there's also the show. Like Elvis in his 1955 Ed Sullivan show, with his legendary 'Pelvis' dance that changed pop culture forever in a deep way, Saturday May 20th 2006, Lordi made a useful contribution for a more open, free and liberal world. I'm not kidding. Cultural History is made by these tiny changes. But for now, just buy the record, you won't regret it, it's nice, and these guys are not rich, your money will be appreciated ! Plus, enjoy the fact that we have such music to listen to, and not only the pre-formatted World Top 40.
Thank you guys...

Monster Good Fun!,

Lordi, the finnish monster rockers are the new Kiss, but more extreme. Playing melodic hard rock and heavy metal, they receantly took the world over by surprise by winning the 2006 Eurovision Pop Song Contest. This is a combination of their first two CD's: Get Heavy and The Monsterican Dream. The Monster Show starts off with the rightfully named Theatrical Trailer, introducing the band, then paving the way for Bring It On! Blood Red Sandman stomps it's way next, followed by the melodic My Heaven Is Your Hell. The beautiful Would You Love a Monsterman quickly captivates you next with it's awesome guitar riffs and Mr. Lordi's raspy vocals. Following is the classic riproaring Devil is a Loser. The piano ballad Icon Of Dominance is next, silently giving way to the haunting Children of The Night. Shotgun Divorce delivers the kicks, and the wacky Forsaken Fashion Dolls really make you wonder about those fashion freaks. Wake The Snake slithers in next with a bang, chanting the way for Rock The Hell Outta You. The Bonus DVD's are a real treat, with Blood Red Sandman being a must see. All of their music videos are like short horror films. It's been a long time since any band has delivered such wonderful music all in monstermaniac style and fashion! If you love Kiss, horror movies, and classic heavy metal, buy this album. It's a must have!
Great Tracks: Bring It On, Blood Red Sandman, My Heaven is Your Hell, Would You Love a Monsterman, Devil is a Loser, The Children of The Night, Wake The Snake.

EXCELLENT!!!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Monster Show (Bonus Dvd) (Audio CD)
I just read a previous review saying that this band rip off Gwar and that they sound like lame 80's music...are Gwar not from the 80's?
And no they do not rip off Gwar one bit, they are completely different style in every way. This CD is excellent, don't let people like that change your mind into thinking that this is a poor CD, every second of every song is excellent!

I don't have much to add to the previous (positive) reviews, other than to say that the song selections make this a bit different from being a simple "best of" album. It's true that some better songs were passed over in favor of less potent ones, like "Icon of Dominance." But it eventually came off to me as being a cross between a best-of and a concept album, a bit like a *thematic* introduction to the band.
That isn't evident at first, but it becomes clear after paying attention to the lyrics. Each track sets the stage for the next one, and the overall effect is... more sinister than one might expect. What Lordi does in their videos, they did with the song arrangement here. If you're looking for a good introduction to the musical face of the band, I'd recommend the special edition of The Arockalypse instead of this -- the fact that the DVD contains concert footage and videos complements the CD and makes for a well-rounded (and kick-ass) experience of their work. But go for this one if you want to get a darker take. If you pay attention, you'll get it. The fact that it isn't obvious is the only reason why I'm giving it four stars instead of five.

Lordi's "Best Of" album is not available in stores. That's too bad. It was created to introduce Lordi to the UK and Western Europe. It brings some of Lordi's best early work into one CD and gives new listeners the best that Lordi has to offer, to date. Once you hear this, you will want the Arockalypse and will be a devoted follower to their website.

Great Album, But not Lordi's Best...,
This review is from: Monster Show (Bonus Dvd) (Audio CD)
Lordi is one of my favorite bands. Almost anything they do is good. This cd is no exception. However, if you have never heard a Lordi cd I would steer twords 'The Arockolypse'. I do love "old school" (before eurovision)Lordi but the new stuff is better than alot of the songs on this album. If you already own 'Get Heavy' or 'The Monsterican Dream' then do not buy this cd. It is a merger of the two early albums for sale in the UK. If you can afford it, I'd buy the first to because this one is missing some key tracks. Highlights of 'The Monster Show' include "Rock the Hell Outta You", "Blood Red Sandman", "Devil is a Loser", "Shotgun Divorce", "Bring it On" and "Would You Love a Monsterman". These are all really great song, but it lacks " Biomechanic Man", "Dynamite Tonight" and a few others from the first albums at the expense of forgettable songs like "My Heaven is Your Hell" and "Icon of Dominance". In all it's a good cd, but I'd go for 'The Arockalypse'

I got turned onto this group by seeing one of their google music videos. Their music is awesome! Back to the 80's when metal was great! You have to check out one of their videos---that will make them one of your favorites too.

The Monster Show,

The Monster Show is a sort of "best of" cd from Lordi's first two albums. If you want to get some Lordi but don't want to spend a lot of money, this is a good a way as any to get a listen. My favorite tracks are Blood Red Sandman, My Heaven is Your Hell, Devil is a Loser, Icon of Dominance, and Wake the Snake. It comes with a DVD with some music videos on it. Very nice.
