Well - I don't have too many details - all I can say is that I used to have the cables out of the box, and now I have this cable. The disparity between the picture quality before and after is flat out ridiculous.
I am viewing DVDs on a relatively small (26" phillips widescreen) TV, and I can only imagine that the difference on a larger TV will be even more pronounced. This is close to being the best discretionary expenditure I have made in my life. One word of warning. Make sure that your DVD player is not set to S-Cable output, since the picture will be atrocious (all red and grainy), until you switch it to "component video"

I had never used the "component" variety of video cable before in my life, but I read how it surpasses A/V cable (yellow, red, white), composite and S-video connection-types and so I chose component as the way to connect my DVD player/recorder to my new 32" LCD TV.
I bought 2 of these cables. The cable itself is very thick and comes across as being "very durable"; it is very well made! Video quality when playing a dvd is awesome; a joy to watch! Also, it is nice that the "industrial-strength type plastic packaging" has a perforation trail in back that makes opening the package very easy! This component cable is doing an excellent job! I recommend this to you!

This review is from: Monster THX V100 CV-8 THX Certified Component Video Cables (8 feet) (Electronics)
I bought one of these cables (and several of the 4 foot versions) to hook up a High Definition TV and a Progressive Scan DVD player and I've had no problems.
The quality is great and the price is right. The 8 foot cable was the longest I needed and only because of awkward TV positioning in one room. (If you've got all your video appliancies next to each other you definitely don't need more than a four foot cable.) Although supposedly it is only a "standard" Monster Cable, I can't believe that you'd see any difference in quality by buying a pricier cable. I would bet the main difference is in durability -the more expensive cable is a little thicker and probably has slightly higher quality components. After all, you have to meet certain quality standards to qualify for THX certification. (That being said I would not purchase any cable below these standards -why would you want to pay for a COMPONENT level cable that did not allow DVDs to be played the way they were optimized for?) What does THX certification mean? Below is a blurb taken directly from the THX website describing it: --- "THX is on the forefront of entertainment technology, offering products and services of unparalleled quality for post-production, distribution and playback of audio and visual content. THX Certification is considered a mark of excellence in the presentation technology industry, offering consumers a promise that the cinemas they visit and the products they purchase have been evaluated and tested to meet the highest standards for picture and sound performance." Overall, a great cable that is twice the length of the Monster THX 4 foot cable but only a little bit more expensive. A great value!

I bought several of these cables to hook up a High Definition TV and a Progressive Scan DVD player.
The quality is great and I've had no problems. Four feet is really all you need if you store your Video appliances (TV/Cable Box/DVD) close together. (There is also an 8-ft version if you need something longer.) Although supposedly it is only a "standard" Monster Cable, I can't believe that you'd see any difference in quality by buying a pricier cable. I would bet the main difference is in durability -the more expensive cable is a little thicker and probably has slightly higher quality components. Overall, a great cable for a decent price.

I recommend using the Monster Standard Cables and always will. I actually did try different cables unlike most people who talk about the cables all being the same.
I actually decided to purchase three different brands of component video cables. Keep in mind that these were purchased at BEST BUY and was when they just came out so the prices were slightly higher. The first one I bought was Philips, only because it was only 9.99 at the time. That one surprised me quite a bit because the previous one to that was the standard video input cable. The second one I tried was made Belkin was a moderate priced 14.99. Then I went to the Monster Standard Cables at 24.99. Yea, I know the price is higher. Everyone said "They're all the same," but I had to see for myself. And you know what, they aren't. The Monster Standard Cables actually did do better than the other two! The picture came in clearer and the colors were slightly brighter. Yea, you could say its all biased, but trust me. It's worth the extra buck after you paid for the higher end equipment that has the capability to use this stuff. Yea, I've looked at the really expensive stuff too. I bought one of the cables too, but didn't really think the slight nudge in quality was worth it. The Monster Cable ULT V1000 did perform better, but I didn't have the extra cash and didn't want to waste 79.99 on a single four foot cable. The inputs you should use to achieve the best picture quality are the component video inputs for the DVD player(s). It does the best job of the three (Standard video, S-video, and component video), which any expert will tell you. Monster Standard Cables get a 5.0 from me, and until something better comes along that isn't way over, Monster Standard Cables are the one I'll recommend. © 2005 - David Chen - All Right's Reserved

After considerable on-line research, I bought these Monster component cables for our new HDTV (a Sony LCD). I first connected them from our DVD player to the TV but couldn't see any noticeable improvement over the component cables provided by Comcast (when we ordered the HD cable box). I next connected the Monster cables from the HD cable box to the HDTV and again did not see any noticeable improvement over the Comcast component cables. We got a great result with both DVDs and HDTV channels using the Comcast cables. So I ended up returning the Monster cables to Amazon.

We have our dvd player on a shelf directly above our television. If the cables were really 4 ft long, they would be perfect. But the cables are shorter than advertised and they fall out easily when the DVD player is moved. We had to push the DVD player toward the back of the shelf to lessen the tug on the cables. I dinged them 2 stars because I think it is unforgiveable to say something is 4 ft long when it is really much closer to 3 ft.

I bought a few sets of these cables for my home theater. I loved the picture they brought to my 50" plasma tv....however, in pursuit of the perfect picture- I also bought a Monster HDMI cable to upgrade a couple months later. Long story short, these component cables produced a better picture than the hdmi cable at 1/5th the price. These cables produced a sharper picture with more vibrant colors than the hdmi. The wife and friends agreed also. You will be happy with the results you get from these cables.

Improves the picture quality!,
This review is from: Monster THX V100 CV-4 THX Certified Component Video Cables (4 feet) (Electronics)
Before I owned this cable I was disappointed with the quality of picture that I was seeing on my HDTV. Though I wasn't very positive about it I decided to go ahead and buy this cable. The picture quality changed by a significant amount! Much better than my cable company supplied cable.
My suggestion is to not hold back in buying this cable especially when you are talking about thousands of dollars invested in a HDTV. Also, buy a shorter cable if you don't need a long length. I bought a 4ft cable and it worked fine. You need to move your power lines away from the audio/video cables in general to keep the audio/video quality good. |
