4.0 out of 5 stars Great device for the money
The cassette adapter works like a charm, and is superior to any FM transmission device.

I'm rather confused with some of the reviews as this works just fine in both our cars. One is a front-load and one is a side-load and no problems since we've owned it for about the last year. I recommend it.

1.0 out of 5 stars AWFUL!
I purchased this item recently along with a Panasonic CD/MP3 player. If you've never heard of Monster, Ill tell you that monster is well known to audiophiles everywhere. The folks at monster are truely obsessed with making the highest possible quality cables, adapters and so on. Some would even say they go overboard. I've always gone to monster when I wanted the best...

I've always gone to monster when I wanted the best video signal transfer or the best possible sound.

Because of Monster's reputation in the audio industry I of course assumed that the more expensive Monster Cassette adapter would be of higher quality and produce better sound and less noise than the cheap one included with the panasonic player I bought. I was wrong. Very wrong. This adapter performed terribley in comparison to the cheap included one, producing horrible sound distortion. It didnt just do a poor job, it actually RUINED the sound. You should also note that the other adapter worked perfectly.

The details for this adapter fail to really say whether this item is made specifically for use with just the Ipod or whether it can be used as a general purpose cassete adapter that just happenes to have the Ipod branding and logo on it. I assumed it was just being marketed towards Ipod owners, but I wonder if it may somehow be technically tweaked, performance-wise, for use with the ipod? That doesnt seem likely as a minijack port is a minijack port and analog stereo sound coming out of a minijack on an ipod couldnt be any different than that coming from a sony discman or the back of a PC... it's a standard audio output. But maybe Monster optimized certain frequencies based on thier knowledge of the MP3 codec and or the ipod to enhance sound output which caused my experience??? This doesn't seem likely... and what's more if it is the case it's absurd... That'd be like RCA making an RCA adapter designed only to work with RCA VCRs even though the outputs and signals are compatible across the board. And besides, if it were the case, there shouldbe something sayin so dont you think?

No, I think this is just a poor product release. Monster should be ashamed. The signal to noise ratio and the frequency response specs arent even listed on this page OR on the package! (which I thought were requiered by FTC regulation) is missing.

Even if you're an ipod owner, I would try this out before buying it. Otherwise save some money and buy a cheaper one from sony or panasonic... or any other brand for that matter.

I called the company today and they said they are aware of defects in the car adapter. It doesn't work well with some cars. They are working on a new version of the cassette adapter, until then don't buy this.

I also own a 2003 Infiniti G35 with a Bose Audio System. The cassette adaptor did NOT work in my car. After inserting the cassette adaptor, the tape deck would begin jumping back and forth from Side A to Side B. Finally, it would pop the adaptor out and give the following message: "Tape Err". So, if you buy this, be prepared to return it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Noisy and didn't work at all, January 19, 2006
This review is from: Monster Cable iCarPlay iPod Cassette Adapter (AI CAS-ADPT) (Electronics)
I too have paid extra money for the quality of monster cables and surge protectors and was expecting the best. What a bummer!

This thing just kept whirring and clicking noisily, and I never could get it to play any music. I tried several sources (CD player, mp3 player and IPOD) and tried to play it in three car cassette players ranging in age from 10 years to 1 day - as well as a boombox player.

It did not work at all. It is not worth replacing, as the gears make so much noise even without music that I couldn't tolerate it for more than one or two minutes anyway. A loser, Monster!

The thing still works after a month, but makes horrible mechanical rattling noises as it plays. So bad, I was moved to write my first amazon review in order to chime in.

Broke after 3 days. I got this for a road trip so I threw out the packaging, assuming Monster products were high quality -- they aren't. Get the Sony adapters -- works great for me.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't let it fool you - it will eventually fail, October 10, 2005
This review is from: Monster Cable iCarPlay iPod Cassette Adapter (AI CAS-ADPT) (Electronics)
I rarely write reviews. But every once in awhile something annoys me so much that I feel the need to be a good citizen and warn others about a product's shoddy performance or disappointing features so they can buy something better.

I bought this adapter for my iPod Mini a few months ago after reading reviews and researching. It seemed the overall sentiment was positive. I wonder if those positive reviewers now want to STOMP ON THEIR MONSTER ADAPTER as much as I do. My first annoyance was a clicking sound that is quite audible unless you have the music up pretty loud. I usually do, so I overlooked that. Then my car would periodically spit it out. Again, weird but livable, since it happened only once in awhile.

Well, my new car must know what a piece of trash it is because it vomits it out every 5 seconds. It goes in, begins to play, and then (HOIF), spits it out. EVERY TIME. It's not the car, that would be blaming the victim. The car has an excellent sound system. It's the cheap, poorly made hunk of plastic that Monster sold me that's causing my car to be sick.

I don't recommend this product AT ALL. I'm going to try to return it, and either way I'm going to buy the Sony and see if it does any better.

After one day of use (not even the whole day, just like 20 minutes) the product wasn't working any more. My car was spitting the tape out. I've wasted so much time and gone through some humility trying to fix this!! I had to dig the garbage trying to find my receipt from the apple store. When I didn't, I had to call Monster and they said they'll replace it if I sent it to them(I had to pay the s&h of course). I've given up and came here to write a review for my terrible experiences. THEN I read that it works if I removed the rubber wheel inside. So I took it apart and did so and it works! It makes LOUD whirring noises but the music works so I'll be keeping this but if you're considering this item... don't waste your money & valuable time!

After 3 weeks it started changing from side A to side B and after a few seconds I would get an "Err" message on the LCD and the cassette deck would spit it out.

I returned it back and got the Sony version. I was blown away.
The Sony is:
1)much louder
2)much better sound
3)no errors

Get the Sony, don't waste your money on this.
