From the Manufacturer

Music on the Road

Traveling with music is a great way to make a long car trip go by quick, but radio stations do not always play your favorites. Taking along CDs allows you to play what you want, but fumbling through discs while you drive is not safe and carrying a large number of discs can be awkward. Carrying personal media devices such as an iPod are a great way to take your music with you, but these devices are meant for a single user with headphones, how do your friends hear what is being played?

Driving Tunes for Everyone

With the Monster iCarPlay Cassette 800, all of the music stored on your iPod, iPhone, Android phone, or MP3 player is just a click away. Simply connect the cable into your player's headphone jack, pop the cassette adaptor into your car's cassette player and all of your music is now playing through car's audio system. Enjoy your music and share with the whole car for the entire trip...

Special Monster Features

Since cassette decks in cars are not always laid out in the same manner, the iCarPlay Cassette 800's cable can be moved from one end of the cassette to the other. This allows for hassle free operation, no matter how your car's cassette deck is laid out.

Very good sound quality.

In order to even hear the music in my car...I had to turn my speakers up to the max volume...and even then...it sounded like the music was under water.

Ive been through a couple other brands and this monster adapter seems to be the best one.

I have been buying one cassette adapter after another (yes, I am doing my part to revive our economy), and I have been frustrated again and again. With the Monster iCarPlay Cassette Adapter 800 I have finally found a cassette adapter that doesn't rattle as the spokes turn in my vehicle's player; however, I have found a cassette adapter that instead provides a low hum. It sounds like an impedance mismatch or grounding problem but I am not a big expert on audio problems so I cannot say for sure. Most of the time, the music covers the hum (just as it did the rattles) but I hear it when there is low or no music. (It actually helps to remind me the adapter is still in and the player on, as did the rattle, of course, but that is not ideal.)

For others with music quality problems, I would ask if you have turned down the volume on your player to prevent overdriving the cassette heads. This is a basic step for me, but I am not sure if it is common knowledge for everyone.

Love that the rattle is gone.
Hate that there is a low hum (as I am easily bothered by certain noises, as if you couldn't guess).
Like the shorter cord (as my iPhone/iPod sit close to the cassette player and the longer cords of other adapters get all tangled).
Like the black color with a touch of red (aesthetics).

Still searching for the perfect adapter.

...sigh...

Before I bought this product, I read all the reviews. I'll admit that I had some reservations about buying the adapter with all that had been written about it. I am writing because I am concerned that the Monster Cassette adapter may have gotten a bad rap. When I finally received my iPod, I attached it to the adapter and loaded the cassette. I had no difficulty with its operation and was especially impressed by the quality of sound. I did not have to remove any gears or monkey with the adapter in any way. It worked as advertised from the beginning even though my player has automatic reverse. I will add that I bought the iPod to listen to audiobooks so my requirements about sound quality are not as rigorous as they might be if I were listening to music. Still the sound I have been getting from the Monster adapter in my 15 year old cassette player is better than I got from either tape or CD, music or spoken word. There is no background noise. I would highly recommend the equipment for non-audiophiles and audiophiles who bought an iPod to play in an old vehicle to listen to books.

I Usually Stay away from Monster and go with any-brand cables, Especially for digital cables...BUT.... After going through 3 different tape adapters and having an array of problems mentioned below... THIS ONE is a HUGE breath of fresh air, Pretty much perfect....
Pros
1. The Tape itself in the player doesnt click and clack like nearly every other adapter
2. The "hiss" of silence that these adapters are famous for is nearly inaudible especially with your MP3 Player configured correctly (volume at 50-70% from your ipod/mp3 - Then control volume with the dial in your stero), There is no comparison to any other adapter i've tried this one has very little "noise"
3. The cord is thicker than the usually are for these adapters
4. Audio quality seems MUCH better, less static, Less noise, overall worth the 5-8$ premium youll pay over a cheap version.

If you're still an owner of a car with a tape deck without bluetooth, this is the easiest solution. For the better part of a decade I used one of the original Monster cassette adapters which worked beautifully. I found it much better than using one of the FM transmitters, which I've never been impressed with. After about 8.5 years of use, my original Monster Car Play adapter bit the dust -- but this was entirely from my abuse -- I wound up fraying the cord near the connector from putting undue strain on it accidentally.

Anyways, enter the newer version. This one works identically to my old one, which in my given tape deck is extremely well. Coupled with my iPhone, Spotify Premium, and this tape adapter the old sound system in my late 90's BMW sounds very clear and crisp, without any unexpected amplification or attenuation of anywhere along the frequency spectrum. I've had previous tape deck adapters that somehow managed to erase all the bass, or the treble, or a combination of somewhere in between.

A few improvement to this one vs. the old model:
- The audio connector is reinforced and no longer at a right angle. I this this is a HUGE improvement, as the only thing on this that has the potential to break is the cord. Given that most of the cord strain occurs at the plug, I think this should go a long way to ameliorate these issues.

- The "gears" on this one turn, and are quiet. My old one had gotten noisy. A few reviewers made comments that this thing made a lot of noise while it was turning inside the tape deck. Given that this is essentially just for show, you can crack open the plastic case and take out the little plastic gears -- the sound transfer apparatus has no moving parts and is therefore quiet.
