All I can say is this: Mayday Parade has finally done it. After so many years passing since their debut album "A Lesson in Romantics", Mayday Parade has rediscovered its forte here. In every way, "Monsters in the Closet" feels like a genuine follow-up to their first album. "Anywhere But Here", while a good emo-pop/pop-punk release, nonetheless felt like Mayday Parade was still reeling from severe aftershocks of having lost Jason Lancaster from their lineup. Meanwhile, their self-titled third album seemed like a confused, conflicting mix of "old" Mayday Parade with "pop" Mayday Parade, though it produced some worthy tracks in its own right. Fortunately, neither one of these is a problem on "Monsters". The production is sharp, the song structuring is done in "A Lesson" style (without feeling like a carbon copy of "A Lesson"), and the musicianship is improved from the second and third efforts. In fact, "Monsters" may possibly boast the most proficient guitar playing of any Mayday Parade album, featuring some decent solos (for the standards of emo-pop/pop-punk rock). All of the songs, lyrically and aesthetically, manage to come very close to capturing the heart and soul of Mayday Parade as they were during Jason's tenure in the group.

Ultimately, while this album still cannot quite match up to the standards of "A Lesson", it is by far the closest that they have gotten to recapturing the heart and soul of Mayday Parade as a band. Absolutely get it if you're a fan of Mayday Parade.

This album is really good. The songs are well written and he has the voice of an angel. 12 through 15 is my favorite.

Obviously nothing beats Mayday's first album, "A Lesson In Romantics". Although if you were as disappointed in "Anywhere But Here" as I was, this album is a huge step up. The song "12 Through 15" pretty much makes the entire album worth buying, and there are a couple other good songs I enjoy listening to. Overall, the album didn't take my breath away, but it was worth getting and I listen to it on a frequent basis.

I must admit, I never heard of this band and I'm not sure how I landed on their music and ended up purchasing it. I do know I'm awfully glad I did. This is by far some of the best sounding new music I've heard this year. The songs are melodic, lyrical and at times touching and other times just great hard rock.

Favorite songs? "Ghosts" is a energetic blast of adrenalin. "12 through 15" is simply gorgeous. These might be the highlights, but nothing strikes me as weak. Just one of those records you can listen to over and over again and never grow bored.

This album, first of all, is an instant Mayday Parade classic. Every single song rings true to their promise - soft, sometimes slow pop-punk.

Not only will it satisfy Mayday Parade fans, but it will bring new fans to the genre. The soft rock music is likable enough for people who enjoy many different types of music.

I fully recommend this album.
