5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful! Great for Monsters, Inc. fans of ANY age!, June 14, 2010
Disney and Boom Kids Comics takes us back to Monstropolis to catch up with Mike and Sulley after the events of Pixar's fantastic (should have won the Oscar over Shrek) movie, "Monsters, Inc."! Sulley is running things at Monsters, Inc. now, and the last thing he needs is added stress from recently escaped criminals Randall Boggs and Mr. Waternoose, let alone a meddling human kid with a vendetta against toys (yes, Sid found his way to the monster world too!). Mike's attempt to cheer Sulley up by bringing Boo back for a visit doesn't help matters either. Throw in a toy-napped Jessie doll and easy to miss cameos by every PIXAR film except one (why, oh why do they always neglect "A Bug's Life"? I LOVE "A Bug's Life"!), and you have the new comic collection "Monsters, Inc.: Laugh Factory", a real treat for all Disney/PIXAR/Monsters, Inc. fans! Featuring four fun-filled chapters that collect four comic books telling individual but connecting stories, "Laugh Factory" may not present an epic or particularly inspired narrative on par with the movie, but it's great fun, and what is so impressive is how true to the film it all stays throughout and how beautifully drawn it is (speaking as an artist myself). As a huge Disney fan and a big fan of PIXAR as well, the artwork here, including the cover gallery, just makes me drool. It is truly excellent. The book itself is a lovely package also. I don't have the hardcover version, which I've never seen, but the much more budget-friendly softcover (9.99) is made of very high-quality materials and just beautiful. I really love these new Disney comics from Boom (PIXAR, Muppets, and the main gang of mice, dogs, and ducks), and I much prefer to buy them in these sturdy collections than individually, especially considering how many titles they have. Frankly, at the rate they are producing them, I'm having a hard time landing all the collections already. They're really terrific though, and I hope to catch up eventually and keep collecting them. Very, very fun stuff, great for the collector's shelf or for the kids in the backseat on a trip to Disney World. Keep 'em coming, Boom, and keep releasing them in collections too, because that's what I'm going for! Can't wait for the upcoming Darkwing Duck stuff too, and I hope to see more Disney Afternoon titles from you the same way you nailed the world of PIXAR (Gummi Bears maybe? TaleSpin? Bonkers?), and perhaps some other stuff too (Kim Possible? Emperor's New School? Dare I suggest it, The Great Mouse Detective?). I'll be waiting for more! And don't forget "A Bug's Life"!
