Makes planning your trip easy. Adventure stories add to fun.,
This review is from: Montana Fly Fishing and Camping Guide (Paperback)
An extensive coverage of all the best fly fishing holes in Montana. As a fly fishing guide for over 15 years and having clients such as Charles Schwab and Huey Lewis he knows what you're looking for and tells you where to find it. It's a perfect traveling companion for those Fly Fishermen or Camping folks hitting the roads between Glacier National Park and Yellowstone. Dave provides you with detailed directions on where the best spots are along with funny stories of his travels...he'll actually tell you what mile marker to look for and which part of the fork in the road to take! Take a look at glaciertoyellowstone.com for pieces of the book.

To me, it's just not organaized well. It's hard for me to follow which water author is talking about due to inconsistent title, numbering, bullets, etc. For example, Madison River appears in both Southwestern and Yellowstone chapters. I know that but it's too choppy to follow a river. Sounds like a different water. And then there is no detailed map for each water or at least surrounding area with camping cite, boat lauch, public access, etc. Just a big and broad map for the region (Northwest, southwest, etc Montana). The reader has to follow and imagine where he's talking about only with his "blah-blah" way of writings. It's too hard for me to follow. It makes me assume "this is where author is talking about". And most of the time, along with the information from other guide books. I bought this because I wanted to explore where I don't know and look for information. If you are looking for fly-fishing guide to Montana, get Flyfisher's Guide by Chuck Robbins. It's WAY WAY better just adding some bucks. And then if you need information for Yellowstone area and Madison River, get guide books by Craig Mathews. There are a few positive reviews for this book but I DON'T recommend this. Whatever and whenever I buy things at Amazon and when I look for hot DVDs to rent in my area, I always check out editorial, production, and customers' reviews and they have given me right informaion. This is the only one that disappointed my expectation and excitement of shipment. And of course the purchase. SY

I'm not a camper so this was not the best flyfishing guide for me. It is oddly organized by the roads or highways you drive in various regions of Montana. There is a terrific opening section giving descriptions of the ten top attractor dry flys. Maps are fair at best -- river access points and bridge crossings are not identified. Some funny "war stories" by the author. All photos are black and white.
