"...brimming over with vivid descriptions and fascinating historical details." 3 Stars from Romantic Times

Product Description

Montana Promises is a western historical romance filled with passion, vengeance, loss and love. An epic adventure as vast and wild as the untame land.

Tressie Majors is left alone in a soddie on the vast great plains after the death of her mother in childbirth. She has no idea where her father might be. Struck by gold fever he abandoned his family and set out for the gold fields of Montana Territory. She wants only to find him and let him know how much she hates him for leaving her and her mother alone and vulnerable. As she buries her mother and the child, she sees a horse and rider approaching in the distance. Perhaps
this is her way out.

Reed Bannon is a wanted man. Shot when he steals a horse from a Union officer, he rides west, his blood leaving a trail across the treeless plains. He flees not only the Battle of Prairie Grove where he served with McCulloch’s army, but his connection to his mother’s people, the mighty Sioux. He seeks a future free from the prejudice againt his Indian heritage and the violent acts he
has been driven to.

Half-dead, Reed survives only because of Tressie’s care. He is her only hope in the pursuit of her hated father. The wild plains and mountains threaten attacks by savage Indians and gold-seeking white men who pose a threat for any woman alone. But he fears those who pursue him will pose more of a threat to her than if she remains in the soddie. So he denies her request to go along and
sneaks off without her.

She refuses to remain and strikes out to follow him. By the time she catches up with him he has no choice but to take her along. Together they embark on a quest that leads them to the depths of danger and the heights of passion.Though torn apart by bitter circumstances neither can forget the
love that binds them together forever..

Said Georgia Gentry: “Well researched and well written...A love story as big as Montana’s Big
Sky Country.”

Part of her Montana trilogy, Montana Promises is as wild and sprawling as the country in which it is set. A young girl alone, a mother dead in childbirth, a wanted man, and the Big Sky country combine to set the reader on a rather gritty ride. Available on Kindle, this is a perfect take-along tale.

Another female stereotype February 2, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Given the other reviews, I was looking forward to a novel about a strong woman. The leading character began strong, but the author unfortunately succumbed to depicting her as a silly weak young girl-child who had no sense of logic, which was unfortunate. When will we see a novel about a really strong young woman that is feminine, beautiful and also as logical as a man? Perhaps this is not yet a popular notion.

Montana Promises November 11, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I was riveted to this story from the introduction: after Tressie Majors buries her mother and infant brother on the desolate plain next to her family's sod house, she sees a lone rider approaching in the distance. I counldn't wait to readTressie's epic story of vengeance, romance, and just plain hardship in a raw and dangerous world. When the land didn't threaten her survival, other people, disease, and animals could. Both with her rescuer, Reed Bannon, and without him, she prevails against these threats and follows the trail of her father who abandoned his family to search for gold. She finds friends and enemies along the way and learns quickly when to fight and when to remain quiet in order to survive. Montana Promises focuses on the intimate love between two lonely people wandering in the vast expanses of the American West, showing how big this country is and what it demands of people to live here. This book "promises" a great story, and it delivers on that promise.

More About the Author

Velda Brotherton has a long career in historical writing, both fiction and
nonfiction. Her love of history and the west is responsible for the publication of 12
books and novels since 1994. But she's not about ready to stop there. When the
mid-list crisis hit big city publishers, she turned first to writing regional
nonfiction, then began to look at the growing popularity of E Books as a source
for the books that continued to flow from her busy mind. Those voices simply
won't shut up, and so she finds them a home.

A need to continue to write and submit her work, soon led to publishers in the
growing field of E books. Within a matter of months, she placed a western
historical romance, Stone Heart's Woman, with The Wild Rose Press, an award
winning E Book publisher; then a mainstream paranormal, Wolf Song, was
accepted by SynergE Books. A much grittier book set in the Ozarks, A Savage
Grace, about a demon gone rogue and a woman who tames him, is under
consideration by another E Book publisher.

This busy writer who has co-chaired a large critique group for the past 25 years,
also gives two yearly all-day workshops and mentors promising young writers,
plus teaches at conferences in a four-state area. As if that weren't enough to keep
her busy, Velda obtained a conversion of rights for her out-of-print historical
romances and published all six to Kindle. Enthralled by the process of being in
control of her work, and formatting and designing her own covers, she plans to
form a publishing house, Weedy Rough Press, and will publish three of her
contemporary women's fiction novels in the near future. More success certainly
waits on the horizon for this busy creative writer, teacher and mentor.
