Romance and mystery -- a great combo,
By
This review is from: Montana Sky (Paperback)
I just read "Montana Sky" last week on vacation - and a good thing, too! I never would have been able to get up for work since I couldn't put the book down until 2 every morning! This was the first Nora Roberts suspense novel in which I have not been able to guess who the killer was until he was actually revealed. I enjoyed it so much I started reading it again to my husband - who's really a Stephen King fan, not into "romance novels" - on the drive home. He liked it so much he has to finish the half we didn't get to on his own! The developing relationship between the three sisters, while you KNEW they would bond, was still a lot of fun to see happening. Willa and Tess were both great characters, and while I found Lily a little too meek for my liking, the strength that she developed redeemed her at the end. Also, Ben was the classic NR hero - tough, gentle, romantic, a bully - you know, the kind you can't help falling in love with. Just be warned - if you're looking for a classic "romance novel", you may have the same complaints some others have about the violence in this book. It does get a little graphic.

Montana Sky,
By Kelly "Reviewer for The Sinfully Sensuous" (Littleton, Colorado) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Montana Sky (Paperback)
This story centers around three sisters. Willa has lived on Mercy Ranch her entire life. Even though she grew up with her father, he never approved of her or had a nice thing to say to her. Tess is all Hollywood. She is a writer, and thrives in that environment. Then there is Lily, who is shy, and afraid of her own shadow. She has been running from her abusive ex for a long time, and longs to find somewhere she belongs. When Jack dies, all three are brought to Montana. They find out that they must live together or lose out on their inheritance. If they can survive all the twists and turns, they may have found the family each one needs.
It is a great book, and very intense read. The characters are written very well, and the secondary characters are important to the story also. A little more violence than I am comfortable with, but I think it was necessary to the story.

3 romances in one whole book plus a whallop of mystery!,
This review is from: Montana Sky (Paperback)
Nora Roberts has never dissapointed me...I've read almost most of her books and she always manages to captivate me. This book is one of my favorites..Montana Sky is a truly great book. The "Women of Mercy" are wonderful characters. Tess with her bold, independent, devil-may-care attitude would have you envying her for her strength and attitude. Willa with her capable strength and her iron will..the way she shoulder every day problems is remarkable. Lily with her quiet strength which helped her survive every gust of bad luck that faith delt her. Ahh..and ofcourse their men..Ben with his balant sexuality could make your toes curl and Neathedral ways is perfect for Willa's stubborn ways. Nate with his smooth..charming cowboy ways is perfect for Tess' restlesness. Adam with his calming, tenderness, and patience is perfect for Lily's battered soul. The mystery is great..it just keeps you guessing..I do adore mystery but my heart belongs to romance...and mix is a great thing!

My hat is off to Nora Roberts,
By A Customer
This review is from: Montana Sky (Paperback)
I bought this book when it first came out, mostly because it was by Nora Roberts. When I started reading it the book grabbed me from the very start and the more I read, the more I enjoyed it. Roberts isn't just telling a story about 3 sisters and their romances, she's giving you the whole package ... the ranch, the ranch hands, Ben's family, the mothers of these 3 sisters and Montana. I fell in love with the characters in this book. As I read this book, and re-read it, I felt like I knew these people. The dialogue is great and the action "cat-fighting" scene had me visualizing it and laughing out loud. And let's not forget about the sexual tension between Willa and Ben, whew! But when Ben learns that Willa is a virgin, he backs up a little to give her some space and the time she needs. What a man! This book is probably my all time favorite, I honestly don't know how many times I've read it. My hat is off to you Nora Roberts, thank you for writing this book, I absolutely love it!

The Sky is the Limit,
By
This review is from: Montana Sky (Paperback)
This is a story about 3 women, Willa, Lily and Tess who inherit a Montana Ranch from their deceased father who never laid claim to any of the 3 women. Willa was the only one left on the ranch and assumed she'd inherit until the will was read. In the will Jack Mercy, their father, stated that the only way any of them would get a piece of his pie was if they all lived on the ranch for a year together. They had never met before this day.
This is a story of family, love, trust, and murder. Ms Roberts has a way of wrapping your mind around one idea only to have you so convinced and then bam, the story changes. This story has quickly become one of my favorite Nora Roberts independent romantic suspense novels. She is a favorite in general, but his one had me anticipating what would happen next.

Nora, what were you thinking?!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Montana Sky (Audio Cassette)
Having thoroughly enjoyed half a dozen of Nora's books, I was quite excited to read this one, too. What a disappointment!! Too much profanity (4-letter words show such a lack of imagination) and WAY too many detailed, gory descriptions of the murderer's slashing of animals and characters. First book I've tossed out before finishing in years!! Fortunately, I gave Nora another chance and the next one of hers I read was terrific!! This one is definitely NOT A KEEPER--and quite out of character for a Nora Roberts novel! If there were a choice lower than a 1 star rating, I would have selected that.

A good read,
By Donna K. "bookcrosser" (Long Island, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Montana Sky (Paperback)
This book had a lot of elements of a historical western romance, however it was set in modern times. I loved the vivid descriptions of the landscape, however the gruesome attacks by the person trying to sabatoge the range were described in way too much detail for me. I was sure I knew who the killer was, only to find out that I guessed wrong!
I enjoyed the storyline of 3 half-sisters who have never met before, from very different walks of life, coming together and uniting for the common cause, and finding loving men and supportive relationships. The book was a little too long for me, and dragged along in parts, but all-in-all a good read.

This is my favorite Nora Roberts novel. It has all the typical ingredients for a romance novel, but adds in tons of mystery and thrills that keep you guessing until the very end. I've recommmended this book to several people, all who loved it. This is one of those books you can pull off the shelf every once in a while and read again, and the thrills will still get to you! A definite keeper from Nora Roberts.

Why so many detailed descriptions of animal torture?,
By A Customer
This review is from: Montana Sky (Paperback)
I usually love Nora Roberts' books, particularly those set in Ireland, but was so disturbed by this one that I had to stop reading it. There are horrifying descriptions of the torture and killing of an old barn cat, a beloved pet, and several descriptions of sadistic torture of cattle, as well detailed descriptions of castrating and dehorning young male cattle. I was so upset by this unnecessary horror that I threw out the book. I am still haunted by these descriptions and the suffering she describes of the poor animals. I hope Nora Roberts will stick to her normal writing and lay off this sort of work in the future. Otherwise, will have to stop reading and recommending her work - these detailed descriptions of animal suffering are sick.

Formulaic,
By A Customer
This review is from: Montana Sky (Paperback)
With this book, my love of Nora Robert's books began to erode. The characters seemed stereotypical- this is the serious, responsible one, this is the beautiful, sexually promiscuous one, etc. The violence did bother me, and it was difficult for me to accept the motion of the old killer and the new killer. Nora Roberts had been a long, long time favorite, but after reading Montana Sky, Sanctuary, Homeport, River's End, I have found my enjoyment decreasing. Sorry to say, I am moving on to different authors.
