In the editorial review, it mentions the stormy marriage in the plot, and says the wife wants to keep the ranch and the husband (Richard Crenna) wants to sell out to oil drillers. That is not accurate. He wants to sell out to a coal company. That doesn't sound like an important error, unless you reflect on the relative damage to a range caused by an oil rig, compared to an open pit coal mine. The former would present little problem, whereas the latter destroys the surface of the land for many square miles.

Crenna plays a crusty old cowboy and his estranged wife is played by Gina Rowland. They each played their part convincingly and well. It was a good movie, portraying a slice of life that seemed plausible and evoked emotion, holding your interest completely. What more can you ask of a movie?

The supporting players played their parts well, too. Altogether a good, entertaining movie.

I thought it was a very sour script that left a sour taste. McMurtry on some sort of downer. The performances were excellent and the direction was nice. There was a nice accuracy of place & delineation of character. But too much vinegar.
