If you're just visiting Glacier and/or Yellowstone National Park, you're better off finding books geared specifically to those areas, or just talking to the rangers when you get there. However, if you're spending a good deal of time in other parts of Montana, this book could be quite useful.

It splits the state up into eight regions and details 109 different locations in to see wildlife. 90 of these are NOT in Glacier or Yellowstone National Park. The locations vary from walks on paved paths in city parks to middle-of-nowhere spots that likely need a 4WD vehicle. Each location has a short description of what there is to see, and which month/season provides the optimal viewing time. There are also directions, what agency owns the land and if there are any permits/fees required (most are free), the name of the closest town, and what activities are available i.e. camping, boating, etc.

I went on a two week road trip through Idaho, Montana and Wyoming, the focus of which were Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks. I stopped at a couple of places listed in this book along the route, but most were just too far out of the way. If you have a lot of time and are focused on seeing wildlife and visiting somewhat remote areas, this book could be quite useful; however, if you're just a casual tourist or short on time, this is probably not the book for you.
