5.0 out of 5 stars Good ink, great bottle
Everyone has their own favorite ink, but most bottles make it difficult to get the last half out of the bottle and into your pen (or the last 2/3, if your pen has a particularly large nib!). The Montblanc "shoe" has a separate filling chamber that makes it easy to get every last drop of ink into your pen.

1.0 out of 5 stars A Watery Mess
First of all, let me say that I collect fountain pens, so I use a lot of ink. I like Mont Blanc pens--they are good writing instruments (a bit finicky, but, like a fine Italian sports car, work really well when they work). However, Montblanc ink is pretty bad. It doesn't flow evenly, and is really too thin to be useable. I had two bottles of this that I couldn't give...

The Montblanc blue-black ink is a fairly dry iron-gall ink. I like the blue-gray color that emerges after a day or so. Wet pens with fine nibs work particularly well with this ink. Pens with medium or larger nibs may experience ink flow issues.

5.0 out of 5 stars pay attention to our nib, fine is best, extra thick is poor, January 1, 2010

As stated above -this is a great ink - it flows from my Waterman LeMan fine extra fine nib with no trouble at all, however my thick Waterman Opera does have in-over-flow problems. So, know your pen. When you buy good ink, you also pay more -- thus the information on being able to pick up the last of the ink is important if you use a fountain pen -- if you use a quill, calligraphy, or glass pen, only expiration will tell you if a very thin ink works better over a thicker ink. I have glass pens which will ONLY work with a thin ink that has heavy saturation of color, while other hand blown pens absolutely and without question, required a heavier ink such as a Mars ink to keep the blotting down, well since I don't blot, it keeps the large drips down to near zero. In many ways, the older I become the more I look to dipping my pen and writing, then pausing and dipping again -- time to think about what I am going to say and what the best vocabulary will be -- I find that my Watermans are wonderful when used as dip-pens - simply remove the converter and dip, scribble until the flutes are filled with ink, then start writing, when it's time for more ink, that magic feeling of writing on glass in the no-gravity of space begins to fade, a container that allows just the nib to be dipped is getting more and more difficult to find. I want more than one to three sentence as from a glass pen, yet desire the pause necessary to gather ones thoughts after four or five sentences. This is one of the more exceptional ink wells around without moving to the crystal cubes costing 5 to 100 times this price.

This review is from: Montblanc Bottled Ink Refill, Blue/Black (39100BB) (Office Product)

Need ink? Parker's Quink, Sheaffer's Skrip, Lamy's ink or ink from just about anyone else is better that this.

Bottom Line: Avoid this.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good ink, but there's better., December 21, 2010

I use this ink to sign checks. (check-washers hate this ink) But I find Aurora inks to be smoother writing and richer than Mont Blanc inks. On my Mah-Blah Diplomat medium nib, Aurora Black gives me the best results.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best fountain pen ink, January 30, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The only way to write is with a fountain pen. If you love penmanship and care about your handwriting get a fountain pen.

Mont Blanc ink is the best in the world for fountain pens, just like Mont Blanc is the best fountain pen.

The pens last longer that regular ink pens and they say alot about what you are about and what you are trying to accomplish with your life.
