Spinosad (pronounced spin OH sid) is a relatively new insect killer that quickly and safely controls a variety of caterpillar, beetles and thrips pests. Spinosad is derived from the fermentation juices of a lowly soil bacterium called Saccharopolyspora spinosa. To chemists, spinosad is a complex molecule known as a "glycosylated macrolactone;" but to gardeners with a hankering for safer products, it may be a godsend. Spinosad is especially effective on caterpillars and thrips. If you are a flower gardener, your ears should prick up on this one. Thrips and caterpillars are the two most important pest groups on annual and perennial flowers. Perhaps the best thing about spinosad containing products is their safety for people and beneficial insects. Spinosad is safe for adult butterflies and many insect predators and parasites. It falls into the safest human health category as well. Bacillus thuringiensis, known for years to savvy gardeners as Bt, has been a standard weapon for the war against caterpillars. I purchased this product to keep pests off our vegetables. This is the first summer we have had a garden at our new home and our vegetables have been mostly untouched. Maybe we don't really have a pest problem, but if we do, this organic spray has prevented nearly any damage to our plants as a result of insects, etc. The concentrated spray will last us for several years--you need only a tablespoon per quart of water. We typically use about 2 tablespoons worth every 2-3 weeks on a garden that is 30' x 60'. Great to have a product that is safe, convenient and effective to use.

My review is not in the quality of the liquid inside be bottle, but in the quality and of the sprayer. I bought two of bottles, the first sprayed back on me. The second did well, but sprayed the whole content of the bottle in less than 150 SF. I exchange sprayer and use the first bottle, the whole content when again in less than 150 Sf. So, the moral should be buy your own sprayer and do your own refill.

Well, it seemed to work OK, but I was pretty angry when it arrived. The photo clearly shows that the product is ready to attach to a hose. It you read the description carefully, as I should have done, you will see that it says "Pint Concentrate." In other words, you don't get the ready-to-use sprayer in the photo. You get a pint bottle of concentrated product and then have to go to the store to buy a hose-end sprayer and mix the stuff yourself. If I had known that, I would have just gone to the nursury in the first place. This is my first Amazon purchase that was NOT as depicted. Lazy and . . . if I were cynical . . . dishonest.
