Recommended for serious Montessori homeschoolers !, January 29, 2010
This review is from: Montessori on a Limited Budget (Paperback)
Published in 1972 and 1975, this book is recommended for serious Montessori homeschoolers who: want to make their own materials, have some carpentry skills, and a garage or workshop area with tools! (And a zest for crafting activities!)
A fantastic feature found in this book is the appendices section which offers: a "Listing of items according to cost"; a "Listing of items according to time and effort in preparation"; a "Listing of items according to sophistication of equipment and skill level needed"; "Montessori materials we suggest buying instead of making"; "Guidelines for buying and collecting"; "Guidelines for making materials"; a 1974 Price Index; and a rare and hard to find book bibliography (why we love Ebay!) including some non-Montessori books, arts and crafts books, music books, books on reading and writing, math, and science and geography books! (You might buy it just for the four page single space list of books and manuals!)
Another great aspect to the book is the in depth detail for making many of the materials, especially ones that are traditionally wooden. Others you can make using materials found in your kitchen!
If you are a do-it-yourself type this book is for you!

Montessori on a limited budget is a waste of money & time, June 20, 2010
This review is from: Montessori on a Limited Budget (Paperback)
I purchased "Montessori on a Limited Budget" a few months ago. I paid about $50.00 for it. It's so bad I don't feel it's right to resell it! That's right...IT IS THAT BAD!!!
You can do a simple google search and find crafty mamas who will offer much better options & ideas of how to make things. I hate to disagree with Lisa, the previous reviewer, about the 5 star recommendation but I don't think it deserves a 1 star.
You obviously are reading this on the 'net so you know how to search. There are some great GREAT how to's, tutorials, ideas, etc. AND you won't have to pay the ridiculious amounts these sellers are charging. I found no use, well...I did
and have been working on creating my own materials. I'm in the process of posting the information on my blog [...] if you'd like to save time and money. By the way...there are free albums there too.
Well, again...save your money, do a google search for do it yourself Montessori materials and let this book that may have been great in the 70's...STAY in the 70's.
Again, DON'T BUY IT, DON'T BORROW IT, and check out blogs of Montessori mama's & teachers making their own materials
