Rich Italian Church Music of 17th C.,

This review is from: Monteverdi: The Sacred Music, Vol. 1 [Hybrid SACD] (Audio CD)
King continues his fine recording of baroque pieces, here Italian Claudio Monteverdi. Starting in Venice, he was not really influential until taking a position at St. Mark's in Venice. Here the output which we have on this CD were completed in this late Renasaissance style. The setting was dominated by antiphonal, and multi-layered choirs and instruments from different levels and locations. Laced with rich soloists and nicely balanced, conducted and mixed instrument accompaniment, this music is very nice. Especially fond of Beauts Vir, a three part setting which appears to be a setting of Psalm 1 and others which project the righteous vs. the wicked. To be listened to, meditated upon and enjoyed. |
