Another Great Arty Hill CD,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Montgomery on My Mind (the Hank Ep) (Audio CD)
Arty Hill and the Long Gone Daddys are back with Hill's new EP, MONTGOMERY ON MY MIND, a tribute to Hank Williams, Sr. The CD consists of 8 total cuts of both Williams originals, respectfully done by Hill, and a few original songs. The songs are performed in Williams' style, other than "Take These Chains From My Heart" which works very nicely as a rockabilly number, but they all have a somewhat fuller sound as would be expected 50 years after the originals were recorded. I love Arty Hill's playing and singing, and drummer Jack O'Dell once again deserves special mention.
My favorite of Hill's originals on the CD is "Church On Saturday Night" whose chorus goes: "Take me to an Opry I can understand Country was the music and Hank was the man Hank and Red and Minnie, good old Martha White The Lord was Sunday, church was Saturday night." What more can I say? If those lyrics appeal to you, you'll love Arty Hill's latest effort. |
