4.0 out of 5 stars Very well organized, good for the beginning monthly cook.
This book is very well orgainzed, a good beginner's manual if you are new to once-a-month-cooking, she explains what can be frozen and what can't, for how long, etc, very well. I liked most of the recipes, but I would like to see more chicken and more ground beef recipes, since those are the less expensive cuts of meat and those of us on budgets use a lot.

1.0 out of 5 stars What a disappointment!
The best thing about this book is the three-ring format. I can throw away the pages, and insert my own recipes. There aren't many recipes, and those are absolutely mundane. I didn't need recipes for macaroni and cheese or meatloaf. Worse yet, this book contains mostly high-fat, high-carbohydrate dishes. And dishes that are normally stir-fried are simmered in a...

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent cookbook, June 2, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Month of Meals : One Day to a Freezerful of Entrees (Hardcover)
I love to cook and I love to buy cookbooks. I've looked at hundreds of cookbooks, and I definitely like this one. I especially like the three ring binder format so I can insert my own recipes and notes. And the shopping list and other forms are excellent... I especially liked the freezer labels. It's so convenient to be able to copy something out of a book without breaking the spine! I think this author's strong point is organization. She sees cooking as a job and wants to help people get that job done as quickly and efficiently as possible

5.0 out of 5 stars A Time Saver's Dream!, August 8, 2000
This review is from: Month of Meals : One Day to a Freezerful of Entrees (Hardcover)
I am a professional speaker and consultant who specializes in time management, enhancing productivity and life balance. I loved the concept of month of meals but never found a resource I could recommend to my clients until I came across this gem! Not only do my clients rave obout the book's recipes and organization, so do I. As a business owner and working mom, this book has saved me time, stress and guilt. I no longer worry about dinner, even when my business takes me on the road away from my children and husband. I know my family will enjoy healthy meals and a "taste of Mom's cooking" even when I am away. My clients who are working parents echo the same praise. If anyone is debating the purchase of this book, don't hesitate. This is a true winner!

I didn't need recipes for macaroni and cheese or meatloaf. Worse yet, this book contains mostly high-fat, high-carbohydrate dishes. And dishes that are normally stir-fried are simmered in a CROCKPOT! For new cooks, I'd recommend "Joy of Cooking" or "Betty Crocker" - a much better value. For experienced cooks, there is nothing new in this book. A complete loss

5.0 out of 5 stars Month of Meals is fabulous, June 1, 2000

This review is from: Month of Meals : One Day to a Freezerful of Entrees (Hardcover)
Month of Meals is the best organized book of it's kind that I have ever seen. I wanted to do once a month cooking, but couldn't figure out how to get started until I read this book. Her instructions are clear and helpful, and she inserts lots of practical, encouraging tips. There is a good balance between adult and kid friendly recipes. I am extremely pleased with the extra time I have outside the kitchen!

3.0 out of 5 stars Plain food in a plain binder, May 4, 2001
This review is from: Month of Meals : One Day to a Freezerful of Entrees (Hardcover)
The main thing that bothered me the most about this book was that when there was a low fat variation of a recipe, it had the same name on the recipe page as the high fat version. There are two "Ham and Cheese Bakes", two "Macaroni and Cheese" dishes, and two "Broccoli Chicken" dishes -- which I found confusing. I thought pages had been duplicated at first, and if the book dropped, it was hard to find the right recipe again. Simply making one a "Low Fat Ham and Cheese bake" would have been helpful.

That sort of redundancy seemed to be aat the heart of the cookbook, too. I found that there wasn't enough variety for me; most of the dishes were very plain, with very similar ingrediants, They tended to blend into one another -- Cheese and Ham rolls seemed a lot like Ham in Cream Sauce, as they both required that the cook layer ham with a cheese filling, roll them up and then cover them with sauce -- so it quickly became a dull routine to follow. There was no less work, because every dish had to be fully cooked before hand, rather than being able to assemble some of it the day it was going to be served. I was very disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous recipies for REAL food, January 28, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Month of Meals : One Day to a Freezerful of Entrees (Hardcover)
I love the mix of basics and unusual recipies in the book. Other books have gourmet stuff that look great to me, but I just don't have time to make(And I know the kids won't eat them!). They like these though, and everything I've made has been great made fresh. The things I've frozen so far have thawed out perfect too. This is also the best reference I've seen regarding the freezing properties of all kinds of food.
