I bought sandals with the same name and roughly same look about five years ago. I wore them often- across continents and seasons. They refused to wear out. At one point I looked at the treads and thought: how do they design a surface so impervious to wear? Super comfortable, and quite sexy-looking for a sandal, too.
When the strap of one of them finally broke, due to no fault of the strap, I thought it would be a no-brainer to just order the next pair.
Wrong. Montrail recently changed the design of the "Molokai" though not the name. Regrettably, the change made the sandal clunky and unattractive in look. Its contour now looks oddly square in shape, rather than its previous sexy silhouette which complemented the shape of the foot much more. The "new improved" style, now with ugly orange writing and company logo at prominent places, also has lost some of the soles' padding thickness at mid point that made the Molokais unique among similar design, the material of the sandal feels now slightly harder on the foot, with noticeably less shock absorption overall. I am afraid, this was my last pair of Molokais. I just hope they will be as durable as the previous Molokais. (BTW: The women's equivalent to the Molokai, the "Molokini" seems unchanged in design, and still sports the unique rounded, contours of the sole as the old Molokais did.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Plantar Faciitis Sufferers, September 10, 2011
By
So, it was tennis that gave me excruciatingly painful plantar fasciitis in my left heel. After three months of no tennis and no running, it got only marginally better. I went to a podiatrist and he said to get some orthotics. I could either get some custom made ones or get some over-the-counter Powersteps from the local running shoe store. I had read that if one has plantar fasciitis, it's not good to go barefoot at all even while just walking around in your home. I bought the orthotics form the running shoe store then asked the sales guy if he had any "house shoe" type sandals that have arch support and hence would be good for plantar fasciitis. He showed me the Montrail Molokais. I bought them, have worn them all day and I swear to all you readers that my pain has subsided a little bit after just a few hours of wearing them. Of course, there might be other brands out there that are just as good, but I didn't buy the other brands; I got the Montrails. It's also neat that you pop them in the oven at 225 degrees for three minutes, then walk around in them for a little while and they mold to your feet (that's the manufacturer's instructions). That's just cool. I hope this review helps. God bless.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not good, November 25, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Flip Flops are the footwear I use the most so I purchased these thinking they looked nice and comfortable. I had 2 big issues with them. I wore them twice and that was all because of the problems. First issue was the arch on them. It was so bad it made my foot sore. Had to have my foot xray'd to make sure it was nothing serious, that's how bad the pain was. Second, while wearing them to a restaurant the material on the bottom of the sandle was very slippery on the floor, I had to hold on the the railing thinking I would fall.

5.0 out of 5 stars most comfortable...ever, October 12, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
hello,
i must have worn millions of sandals over my lifetime, but these montrail molokai sandals are the most comfortable, ever! i have wide feet, but this sandal fits like a glove with no restrictions or bindings. the strap that goes over your arch is so soft and comfortable that it doesn't feel like anything is on your feet. the sole of the sandal gives good grip, but on a waxed floor, it squeeks a lot. walking around outside, it does not squeek. the sandal is very soft and comfortable. it feels like it is molding to my feet as i walk on it. i know it is supposed to be heated to mold to your feet, but so far, it doesn't seem necessary. my feet feel like they are surrounded by soft pillows and it makes walking that much more comfortable. the arch is great. the sandals seem like it is just soft rubber, which is basically correct, but the design that went into making these puts it on the top of my list of comfortable sandals. i have owned reef sandals, (fanning and leather fanning) several sperry santa cruz, etc, all kinds of rainbows, several cheepies and all of the other ones are either break easily, are too narrow, or bind somewhere. these montrail's are the best so far. you can't go wrong... the delivery was great, but the packaging was a little overkill.

update:
they are still the most comfortable sandals ever. but, after wearing them for a long period of time during the day, they have developed an interesting squeek from the soles. the soles are super grippy and on polished tiles, mall marble floors and smooth wooden floors creates an unusual squeek. on carpeting, no noise is prevalent.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as great as I had hoped, September 17, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Having seen a demonstration of the molding technique for these Sandals I bought them untried on-line. After several goes at it they just haven't molded to my feet as I would have hoped. It's a great concept but I don't think they work well for everyone, feet being so different in individuals. For the cost I'm not sure I'd risk it mail order for the frustation factor of returning them etc.,

5.0 out of 5 stars I love them!, February 14, 2011
My feet are wide for a girl so these men's montrail molokai flip flops are great for me! The warm up and mold to your feet concept is by far the best pair of sandals I have ever worn. I'd highly recommend them! (Updated 6 months later.......I still love them. Just bought another pair to have a spare pair)

I wish they still made these the same way. By far the most comfortable long lasting flip flop I have worn.

3.0 out of 5 stars Molokai Sandals Just Okay, April 6, 2009
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The concept sounded interesting, but in practice the Molokai "heat 'em up and mold 'em to your feet" process didn't produce the results I was looking for. The sandals still don't feel as comfortable as I had hoped, and in fact I developed a sizable blister from the strap within the first three days of wearing them. They are getting better, but I would not recommend them.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not the sandal I expected, July 25, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
These sandals were my first order from amazon and I was disappointed. I ordered these to replace a pair that had been chewed up by my dog. The pair I was replacing were montrail molokia sandals as well. I had found those for a bargin at a local store over 2 years ago and never seen the same type again. They were the best flip-flops I have ever owned. I was shopping from my mobile phone and found the exact same sandals pictured with a price range from $22-50 dollars. They only difference mentioned between the prices were colors so I ordered. When I got my delivery I was very excited for my new sandals, but my excitement was crushed by disappointment when I opened the boxe and found the shoes did not match the ones in the pictures. Amazon got me with the old bait and switch. There are 2 different styles listed under the same model name for these shoes. What I thought was a good deal on what I wanted turned out to be a bad deal on something I don't really want. BUYER BEWARE!!!
