Lame "novelization" of original "The Book",
By Anonymous (DENVER, CO USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Monty Python and the Holy Grail Screenplay (Paperback)
I ordered this a little hastily. It is a standard sized paperback with little more than the lines as they appear in the film.
There is a FAR COOLER screenplay that is apparently out of print that you should search for. It's about 8.5" by 11" and includes lots of interesting extras - sketches and deleted/changed lines. I found one on another site that hosts lots of used books often for "half" cover price.

If you are a fanatic...,

This review is from: Monty Python & The Holy Grail Screenplay (Paperback)
If you are a Python fanatic, then you will love this book. There are two drafts of the film included, as well as a variety of pictures and lots and lots of Terry Gilliams eccentric sketches. There is no history of the film given here though, and there are no personla recollections from any of the members. Just the two scripts, a financial summary, and the pictures and graphics. If you are interested in the history of the film, you will have to find other books on Python, or the Grail dvd.

The Paperback of the Screenplay of the Film!,

This review is from: Monty Python and the Holy Grail Screenplay (Paperback)
Yes! Finally! The screenplay! Without all those colour pages! Without all of those annoying photographs! Without all of that jettisoned material! Without the accountants statements! Without any of that boring old "extra" rubbish! It's just the screenplay.Or is it? Not exactly. Of course to the new Python fan, this is sold gold treasure.( Rightly so! ) So newbies...purchase away, without question! BUT....what's in it for the jaded old "been there, seen that, tired of the tumultuous deluge of boring reprints",Monty Python fans? Well....firstly it has a NEW Cover!( Including four(!) reviews from some fine media sources! ).Secondly...it includes the full script to the recently re-edited in...."Missing 24 Seconds"! Thirdly....it has some alternate photos from the film! And perhaps most collectable of all....PAGE 75! Not just any Page 75,mind you. This Page 75 has an error! It has a full page photo of.....STAND INS! Yes,Brother Maynard and his friend,Eric Idle & Michael Palin, are missing, but a photo of their stand-ins IS included! How's THAT for a bargain? Whether using it to re-enact the film with your Insurance Salesman,or beating the neighbour's terrier,or simply using it to balance that wobbly coffee table in your foyer; This is the book for you!

Rate crap.,
By Jerry Bostock "Paco the Poobah" (Atascadero, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Monty Python and the Holy Grail Screenplay (Paperback)
I love Monty Python. Absolute genius in every way. The Holy Grail movie is high on my shelves in its place of honor. This, however, is a horridly inaccurate bastardization of the script. Every five sentences contains an error, leaving out numerous words, including some of the jokes. You can find scripts far more accurate and complete online. Don't buy this, really, find a better one.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Monty Python and the Holy Grail (Book): Monty Python's Second Film: A First Draft (Paperback)
i love this book. It is a laugh riot. it isn't just Monty Python and the holy grail the movie it is a a first draft wich has plaenty of great material that they didn't use in the movie. Many of the material is taking from the second episode of the last season of monty pythons flying circus "Micheal Ellis" i highly reccomend you find this book and get your hands on it as soon as you can.

For ten bucks, what the heck,
By
This review is from: Monty Python and the Holy Grail Screenplay (Paperback)
Amazon has knocked five bucks off the list price of this book which just about makes it worth it. As others have noted, if you're a true MPFC fan, you've seen the movie so many times that you know the script by heart already. You also probably own a copy of the film. So why do you need this book? I dunno. There are no new photos, no commentary... If you know someone who is new to the world of MPFC, it's a safe bet that you'll lend them the video and not the screenplay. On the other hand, for the collector of all things Monty, for ten bucks, this will fill the bill. So what the heck? Go for it.

Great Screenplay, get it if you can! Make sure that you get the big version, I hear that there is a smaller (paperback book-sized) version, though I have not seen it myself. From What I hear the small version is disappointing.

Like a previous reviewer, I highly recommend the version of the script that is crammed with extras such as Terry Gilliam's sketches and a facsimile of the screenplay with edits. It's a treasure.

Some Very Funny Manuscripts,
By
This review is from: Monty Python & The Holy Grail Screenplay (Paperback)
A very funny book that consists of two manuscripts of the script for the movie. One is the first draft and the other is the final draft and I'm VERY glad they were able to set it entirely in the Middle Ages (and not half of it in Herrod's) because the consistency between the two time periods was awful. There were some classically funny bits, like having Sir Bevedere buy a toupee "for a friend", in the Herrod's scenes, but nothing that really went with the rest of the movie. It was also nice to finally read all the subtitles from the credits, which I've never been able to do well, even with pausing.
