"Contractually... Missing!",
By Harvey J.Satan "Harvey J.Satan" (Among The Garden Gnome,Friar Park) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Monty Python's Contractual Obligation Album (Audio CD)
Again...a re-issue without "NEW" liner notes and no "NEW" artwork by Terry Gilliam! The Notes are from "The Monty Python Encyclopedia"(1999),and the artwork is someone's cut and paste job of old Gilliam artwork.
Missing tracks include..."A Farewell To John Denver"( Still illegal to reproduce,apparently.),and the track that replaced it in the U.K.,which was Terry Jones' "Omitted On Legal Advice".Also the exteneded versions of "Medical Love Song" & "Henry Kissinger" ( As heard on "The Final Rip-Off" ) are missing. This album,over-all,is a good mix of sketches and musical comedy. The Bonus material is less than exciting. The Terry Jones & Graham Chapman interview is boring. It sounds like they were awoken and told to be funny,just no energy what-so-ever. "Medical Love Song" and "I'm So Worried" DEMOS are lonnnng,and not really absolutely necessary to have. Python fans also know there is at least 20 additional tracks from these sessions floating around as a bootleg. So this C.D. is quite spotty. I'd purchase it,only if you don't yet have it.

I LOVE this album! This was my very first exposure to Monty Python 20 years ago and I've been a great fan of theirs ever since. As I love heresy, my favorite is "All Things Dull and Ugly", (it's so true!) but I've always wondered just where they got the boys chorus. "The Martyrdom of St. Victor" is along the same lines. However, "Martyrdom", along with several other cuts, are
not musical. These are absolutely hilarious, especially "String", "Bookshop" and "Bells". Aside from "All Things" I think the best musical numbers are "Never Be Rude To An Arab", "Chinese" and "Finland". I haven't heard of any other albums they might have made, but if you like Monty Python, you'll enjoy this album.

Very, very funny!,
This review is from: Contractual Obligation Album (Audio CD)
Admittedly, not all the tracks are equally hillarious, but it's the same with MP's (Monthy Python's) TV series and films... This album works as an album;
the track with Palin's Bishop doing a dumb radio commercial is brilliant, John Cleese is usually wonderfull as a rabid advertiser and the songs... Well, let me tell you there are some quit funny, zany (and sometimes not quite politically correct, God bless them!) songs here - "I like Chinese", "Never be rude to an Arab", "Medical Love Song", "Finland", "I'm so worried"...
