Workaround for install problems...,
By Bryan Kennedy (Dallas, TX United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Monty Python's Meaning of Life (CD-ROM)
Originally, the game wasn't designed to work on Windows NT/XP. To install the game on 2000/XP, use Windows Explorer to browse to the CD. At the root of the CD, right-click on SETUP.EXE and choose Properties. Click on the Compatibility tab and choose Windows 98/ME. The installer will then work correctly.Next, use Windows Explorer and go to C:\Program Files\Panasonic\Meaning of Life. Right click on MOL.EXE and choose Properties. Click on the Compatibility tab and choose Windows 98/ME. Game should now run perfect.

The Meaning of Life - don't expect it.,
By "pythonfreak" (Albany, WA Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Monty Python's Meaning of Life (CD-ROM)
To be honest, you won't find out the true meaning of life with this game. But you will have the most fun anyone can have with a computer. Much superior to Python's first two games, this one has LEVELS! The first level deals with the Seven Ages of Man, mainly derived from the film. Highlights of this include the cynical voices from the Papal Discount House, the hilarous host from the You Don't Know John quiz, the Live Organ Transplants TV Game Show, gravestones voicing their opinion, and, of course, a certain Mr Creosote exploding from overeating. The second level is derived more from the Python TV Shows. The three sections are MATERIAL, SPIRITUAL, and DENTAL. The laughs don't come quite as much in this level, but scenes like the Great Thinkers in the pub (particulary Isaac Newton) and the Indian Guru seeking analogies about enlightenment rank with the funniest material in any game. The third level takes place in THE COTTAGE. Tons of new material from the Pythons! Again, there are not so many laughs, but the various stories from the items around the place are all wondefully surreal. This game is absorbing, looks great (particulary the full-screen fim clips), and is challenging without being totally impossible. Forget any other game, buy this one.

Wild Surreal Fun,
By
This review is from: Monty Python's Meaning of Life (CD-ROM)
The first part of the game is filled with movie clips and scenes from the movie of the same name (including the sperm song) and gameplay largely involves just reliving the movie. As a result, level one does not offer much new (although if you carefully click around, you'll find hidden jokes that add to the movie, including, e.g., what the children in the chapel were thinking during the scene with the church service). Also, during this first level, there is no really challenging gameplay. All you have to do is click on enough places enough times. But once you get past the first level of the game, you will find yourself living in the middle of a Terry Gilliam animated extravaganza, and that's when the fun really takes off. There are further scenes from the Meaning of Life and from the TV series, but the majority of the humour following level one (especially level three) is brand new! It is like witnessing and participating in a lost episode of Monty Python. The gameplay also becomes extremely surreal (but not so much that you can't figure out what you have to do) and more challenging (you might have to check the net for hints a couple times). And there is a lot of gameplay. It is impossible to finish this in just a couple of evenings. But the best part of all is that once you finish the game, you can watch a video of the Martin Luther sketch that was cut from the movie because they felt the chapter it was originally part of had become too long. (It was to follow the scene in which the protestant proudly announces that he can use condoms thanks to Martin Luther's Reformation. The Meaning of Life book contains the dialogue and a few photos, but otherwise it had been unavailable until this cd-rom was released).

i'm not sure if it has been fixed for the games ... is shipping, but my version of "the meaning of life" can't be won. seriously. unless you use a special cheat that takes you to the debug mode a fatal bug in the game will not let you finish. to top it off, i can't find any support or patches for this bug on the web, only other people upset about it. the game is great up until about the very last scene, but once you get stuck it's extremely agrivating. great game, but the quality control at panasonic interactive media needs to all be fired, and then someone needs to tell us all how to fix the game. ugh.

Monty Pythons The Meaning of Life PC game is a fun, insane look into the meaning behind that thing we call life. the grafics are pythonesque and the game play is very smooth. 2 major glitches near the end can cause trouble but are easily avoided. I recomend this for all python fans and for those that still like to laugh.
