This is an amazing blend of black metal and German thrash, featuring Aldrahn, Vicotnik, Alver, and Apollyon. Despite the influences of Destruction, Kreator, and the like, Monumental Possession is still rather unique. There are different vocalists (Vicotnik has one of the most extreme vocal styles in black metal) along with the blackened poetics of Aldrahn. What came after was not guaranteed to satisfy fans of the first two albums, but I like it. However, any black metal fans are encouraged to try out Kronet til Konge and Monumental Possession, they are well worth your time. Oh, and incidentally the tempos are not standard thrash but much faster.

This was the last great album by Dodheimsgard before they turned into... whatever it was they turned into. I am still not sure. Embarassing techno-metal with some awful solo piano pieces thrown in to make them sound...again, I am not sure. Anyway, this is a fantastic album. This is very much true black metal but I find that it is more accessible than the average black metal album as it has a bit more melody and traditional "riffs". As other reviewers have pointed out it is quite different from Kronet Til Konge, their masterpiece, but still an essential album in my opinion.

I bought this CD by DHG because I loved Kronet til Konge very much. It seems that DHG changes their style with evey release. With Kronet..., they were a melodic, sad band.With the follow up to this, "Satanic Art", they are a keyboard laced, fast, futuristic b.m. band. With thir most recent, they are a techno b.m. band. With this, they take the much followed path of thrash influenced b.m.This is not a bad thing, as they do it very well. But this is not as good as Kronet.. (read my review of that). However, this is still great and essential. They blend thrash and b.m. into a style that fans of both will love. The songs are very well written, with aldrahn and vicotnik's trademark vocals on each and every one. If you like only the b.m. that has keyboards loaded down on it, this is NOT for you. For those into something inteesting and fairly original, this is one of the beat albums you will find. A must buy.

If you like brutal and raw Black Metal, and hail the old German thrash gods such as Kreator and Sodom, then buy this cd. It ranks very high in my devastatingly large collection of cd's. This recording has it all...sick vocals (two singers), speed, slow brutal parts and morbid ambience. My only criticism is that the words are in English, and not in Norwegian. Buy this and "Kronet til Konge" and lament this now sadly dead and turned poser band...but what else is new?
