Editorial Reviews

Monumental is the story of America's beginnings. Presented, produced, and starring Kirk Cameron, the 90-minute true story follows this father of six across Europe and the US as he seeks to discover America's true "national treasure" - the people, places, and principles that made America the freest, most prosperous, and generous nation the world has ever known.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent! Far exceeded my expectations!! July 1, 2012
Format:DVD
I'll admit, when I first heard about this documentary I was a bit skeptical. While Kirk Cameron has always struck me as a very sincere person, he wasn't someone I was expecting to do a serious documentary. However, this documentary really exceeded my expectations! Cameron's sincerity and and passion brings a lot of energy to the this film.

"Monumental" was filled with interesting content, much of which I had never heard before. This was quite surprising considering the fact have a Bachelor's Degree in History from a well known state university! Frustrated with the current state of our country, Cameron seeks to understand the foundations of the United States. To accomplish this, he travels to places like England and Holland in search of a deeper understanding of the Pilgrims and then back to New England to understand the foundations of America. He discovers what once made this nation great and something that can chart the course for a new generation of Americans.

In addition to very interesting and well documented content, this movie is visually interesting and very well produced. I highly recommend it to any American interested in the past, or inspiration for the future! I thought it was great!

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible July 3, 2012
Format:DVD
Monumental is incredible! Didn't really dawn on me that my generation (pre-1963) was the last to receive even part of the truth in education of the Puritan's plight. I remember at least seeing photos in our history books of people in England who fell asleep in church, in "stocks" and read of their tortures because of the Government-run church and the church as the mouthpiece for the government. Kirk does a remarkable job of telling this story. Not one single person born after 1963 should be without this. It could change a nation! Excellent, just excellent!

I thought this was wonderful, informative and very inspirational. I knew a lot of the information because I used to live in Plymouth and have an interest in history and true facts. I knew a lot of what is being said today is false or distorted. We need to get back to the truth and teach these younger generations what they need to know about our country. Too many people today dictate their own version to sway the people away from truth. I commend those who put this film together and would like to see more truthful movies on TV as well as in the movie theaters. I will recommend this movie to everyone I know.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's Written In Stone! July 12, 2012
By Gabriel
Format:DVD
This was a great, informative movie, that actually tells the truth about "How We Became Americans". Easy to understand and clears up a lot of omissions that were blatantly taken out of our history. Because some people don't like the truth, they would rather lie and change our history. But the truths are still on our Monuments and in older books and documents. This is why a few groups are trying to destroy our Monuments. See the movie first, especially the ending, then, go see the Monuments before they can be destroyed. This movie doesn't lie, it's all written in stone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kropotkin Review is a "Monumental" Epic Fail June 6, 2012
Format:DVD
I must respond to the Anti-American, Anti-Christian rant posted as a review for this movie. What we heard (instead of a real review) was the ideological human secularism philosophy parroted back at us from a true proselytized believer for this "new religion". You accusations of out-of-control fervor are best reserved for your bombastic tone. Please go back and re-read your rant if you are looking for fervor. Let me take the time to apologize for America on behalf of everyone reading your comments. We are sorry that we have created the highest standard of living on the planet or EVER in the entire recorded history of the world. We are SO, SO, sorry that a class of citizens can go in 150 years from slavery to holding the highest position in the land. We deeply apologize to you Mr. Kropotkin for all the horrible injustices you have to suffer such as having the right to verbalize whatever venom your liberal slant wants to spew. A right that is EXTREMELY RARE in most societies in the entire world. We apologize for not being 100% perfect, because we know how common that is in the human race. We pledge to immediately ditch the 10 commandments in favor of the HUMAN SECULARISM one and only command. YOU are GOD! This movie is merely pointing out how far we have come from the original ideals of our founders. You made the point of this movie perfectly! which is that we need to see where we came from in order to get a better handle on where we are going. This movie, while definitely made from a Christian and patriotic standpoint offers this point of view. However, take a good long hard look in the ideological mirror. You have become what you claim to hate. Pious, pompous and self-righteous. Thank you--I feel much better!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Enlightening July 2, 2012
Format:DVD
I was very impressed with this movie and the level of commitment Kirk had to uncovering the truth about the beginnings of our great country. An excellent treasure of information, some or most of which, you would likely not have been aware of. Gave me a new appreciation for the courage and tenacity of our forefathers. Well worth the investment if you want a truthful and insightful look at American History and how it really happened.
