Book Description

March 2001
Boost your mood and beat the blues with food.

Sometimes it's the act of food preparation itself that will shift your mood--such as kneading bread to work out angry energy. Other times it's the food itself--such as salmon, which is high in calcium and other minerals--that lifts a blue mood. Whether your mood is crabby, self-critical, worried or lovesick, here's a new perspective on it, plus a culinary solution.

Mood Food offers reflections on different problems (including feeling lonely, fighting with family and having a fat day) or mood states (like jealous, stressed out, feeling poor) along with information about how your brain responds to the nutritional qualities of different foods.

After you've identified your mood and understand its hold on you, go ahead and whip up an antidote, all the while pondering a thought provided for you to chew on in the kitchen. The dishes are easy to make, and there are several alternatives offered for each mood. Serving suggestions help you follow through to an uplifted state of mind.

I wouldn't classify this book as a cookbook It is more than that: a book of brief insights into life and relationships intertwined with nutritional info on how food can effect mood.
Easy and rewarding reading AND some really good, fairly easy (healthly) recipes

I ordered this cookbook--a longtime fave that had vanished from my bookshelf--at an astonishingly low price. It contains the best gingerbread recipe, and I couldn't live without it! Many other yummy recipes too, of the aging hippie ilk (healthy ingredients). Thumbs up.
