Wow! I am very impressed with Wax Tailor, but I find this to be a flawed album nonetheless. The dichotomy between music styles on the album drives me nuts. While I like most of the music on the album individually, its impossible to listen to as an album from start to finish. I have to dissect the songs into playlists. Wow! I am very impressed with Wax Tailor, but I find this to be a flawed album nonetheless. The dichotomy between music styles on the album drives me nuts. While I like most of the music on the album individually, its impossible to listen to as an album from start to finish. I have to dissect the songs into playlists. I don't know if this is a cultural difference that might not inhibit a European listener. But to me and my American music brain, when I want to listen to trip-hop, I don't want to listen to hip-hop as well and vice versa. They are different musical moods that I don't feel co-mingle well. I don't think this is a minor flaw either, as it prohibits the album from flowing. It stops and spurts and chugs along throughout the 19 tracks. I love to experience a good album, start to finish. Lots of artists have 'filler' tracks that destroy their album, but that isn't the case here, most of the tracks are high quality, but are not compiled well.

I love trip-hop. I favor it above other genres of music and Wax Tailor is very competent and skilled in the genre when he focuses his efforts there, however, that being said he EXCELS at hip-hop. So much so that I found the trip-hop tracks to be a detraction from the real musical gems on the album. This album's hip-hop tracks as well as his hip-hop tracks from previous albums Hope & Sorrow and Tales of the Forgotten Melodies sparked a fire in me for old school hip-hop that I haven't listened to in 20 years. I wish he would focus his efforts here. He has a real talent for and love of hip-hop that make these tracks the tour de force of his musical catalog.

I have found nary a poor result in anything that Wax Tailor has done, and this album is no exception. I decline to force my opinion with a track by track review, but I will recommend that you check this album out. If you think you might enjoy hip-hop infused, abstract funk type turntable mastery, look no further. His previous two albums are also completely slamming as well.

Holy cow this LP is unreal. Wax Tailor is on a level like nobody else. There's really nothing I can say to do this album any justice from a critical standpoint. If you're a die hard fan, you already know. If you're new to Wax Tailor, get everything he's done. He will never disappoint.
