One of my favorite modern jazz albums. Robert Glasper is a new and very promising jazz pianist exploding onto the scene. Not only will you get a great idea of where he's coming from and where he's going in this album, you're able to sample many other up and coming jazz musicians such as bassist Robert Hurst and drummer Damion Reed among others. Jazz enthusiasts will appreciate how well these three work together to create beautifully powerful musical statements throughout each tune. Beginners to jazz will enjoy the noticable influence of hip-hop and funk among other things throughout many of the tunes that come together to leave unforgettable melodies. Sample this at your local music store! You won't regret it!

Mood is my favorite Glasper album. I love his style as it is clear, technical, fresh, improvisational and unique. I'd been a Glasper fan for years and purchased Mood years after listening to his other albums. I was shocked to find an even younger Glasper who, in some ways sounded even more mature and developed than he did on later works. On Mood, Glasper seems to be a young talent with open ears, who respects the music, respects his listeners, lacks ego and is yearning for an opportunity to shine.

Glasper is a delight and while I first discovered him via a snippet of Canvas on the radio, I have since purchased all of his albums and seen him perform at Yoshi's in Oakland, CA. If you are game to try something new, firmly grounded in the classics, try Glasper on for size. The title track is particulary outstanding -- bold, circular and memorable. Get Mood and press play.

Following his experience as a session pianist performing in the bands headed by
guitarists Russell Malone and Mark Whitfield, trumpeters Roy Hargrove and Terence
Blanchard and Christian McBride, pianist- composer Robert Glasper would make his
impressive debut with this exploratory album that features his trio in a combo setting.
Simply titled Mood, The Robert Glasper Trio--which consists of Damian Reed on the
drums and Robert Hurst on the bass, is joined with fellow jazz musicians like Marcus
Strickland and John Ellis on saxophone, vocalist Bilal and Mike Moreno on guitar, as
it demonstrates a new musical style that Glasper would be marveled for as both solo
artist and band leader. Beginning with his alluring take on Herbie Hancock’s Maiden
Voyage, the track set concludes with fresh new standards like Lil’ Tipsy, Don’t Close
Your Eyes, the lyrical Interlude, L.N.K. Blues and the title track, as well as on classic
standards like Blue Skies and Alone Together, as they perform with sheer grace and
anticipation. As one of the most exciting new jazz pianists to emerge at the dawn of
the 21st Century, Glasper showcases a formative and diverse type of keyboard solos
that earned him the critical acclaim and success on the jazz charts the he deserved,
and thanks for his experience as a session musician that led to his debut album, this
promising young keyboard virtuoso will have a bright and fortunate future that he will
take honourable pride in.

Awesome musicianship. Clean technical proficiency and respects his elders, but but with a modern spin. Perfect for a debut album. Check the many live performances on you tube, I'm loving this guy right now.

Mood is easily my favorite Glasper Album. I love his other works as well, but I've always felt they lacked the purity I hear in this one.
