A Great Introduction!,
By
This review is from: Mood (Audio CD)
One of my favorite modern jazz albums. Robert Glasper is a new and very promising jazz pianist exploding onto the scene. Not only will you get a great idea of where he's coming from and where he's going in this album, you're able to sample many other up and coming jazz musicians such as bassist Robert Hurst and drummer Damion Reed among others. Jazz enthusiasts will appreciate how well these three work together to create beautifully powerful musical statements throughout each tune. Beginners to jazz will enjoy the noticable influence of hip-hop and funk among other things throughout many of the tunes that come together to leave unforgettable melodies. Sample this at your local music store! You won't regret it!

The Right Mood,

Glasper is a delight and while I first discovered him via a snippet of Canvas on the radio, I have since purchased all of his albums and seen him perform at Yoshi's in Oakland, CA. If you are game to try something new, firmly grounded in the classics, try Glasper on for size. The title track is particulary outstanding -- bold, circular and memorable. Get Mood and press play.

I thought Canvas was Glasper's first cd; Ilearned through research it was his sophmore recording. Research on line led me to try Amazon, bingo. "Mood" is outstanding.
