I bought this book on an impulse. I have family with ADD and manic depression. I read through the book in 2 days, because it was so easy to read and understand. The author does a lot of explaining that makes sense to me and it fits my family members who suffer from depression. This book turned a light on in my brain as to the "why, who and how comes" of depression. I am buying more of these to give as gifts. I recommend this to those who have loved ones who suffer and for those who suffer the pain of depression. It's not a cure, it's a door being opened.

Paul Meier is a psychiatrist and founder of Meier Clinics, a nonprofit Christian counseling organization; he is also a bestselling author [e.g., The Third Millenium: A Novel]. Frank Minirth is also a psychiatrist and president of the Minirth Clinic in Texas, as well as an adjunct professor at Dallas Theological Seminary. They formerly operated their clinics jointly, and had a radio show that aired on more than 200 stations, but in 1996 they separated their interests (amicably, we are told). They have also written books such as Happiness is a Choice, Mood Swings, Christian Psychiatry, Introduction to Psychology and Counseling, etc. Steve Arterburn is host of New Life Live!, and a bestselling author.

They wrote in the first chapter of this 1999 book, "professional counseling can take the sufferer to a place that is far more stable and satisfying. And because medical researchers have made grand strides ... medication---when coupled with an active counseling regimen---can bring the miracle of emotional stability and joy to those who have never known either... This book will map out the path that ... others have taken, and if you find your own situation reflected in these pages, it will suggest a path you can take as well." (Pg.
