In his fascinating images, star photographer Robert Polidori casts an objective glance at and behind the decaying facades of the Cuban capital. Accompanied by original Cuban music, which moves back and forth between deep melancholy and unbridled joie de vivre, the viewer can experience the soul of Cuba and the soul of Havana through the inhabitant's faces, architecture, and music. About the Author

Robert Polidori, born in Montreal in 1951, lives in New York. He is an aesthete of built space; his photographs totally redefine the photography of architecture. Exceptional city portraits capture places almost lost from view and lend them a captivating, melancholy magic that makes Polidori's pictures utterly original. His works have been exhibited in Paris, Brasilia, New York, Los Angeles, and Minneapolis. He is a regular contributor to The New Yorker, and has been featured in Geo and Architectural Digest Germany. He has received numerous honors, including a World Press Award and two Alfred Eisenstaedt Awards, one of them for the work in Havana.

This isn't the product I was expecting. The book I wanted is the same Moods Of La Habana, but it is bigger and has 4 CDs inside. I really don't want this small one and I don't know how to proceed with this issue now.

thank you

Maria

3.0 out of 5 stars Cuban Cavier, January 7, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
A brief glimpse of some Havana/Habana homes and architecture that have deteriorated rapidly in the last fifty years which should make the admirers of "rustica" swoon except the reality of decay is overwhelming to the point of being depressing. The photos should sound an alarm that the people of Havana need immediate help to save this treasured architecture and to provide the basics of living we take for granted in Europe and America. As an artist the photos are beautiful but as a human there excessive decay hurts.

The music is interesting in providing sound bites of different kinds of Cuban music with the sounds of life in the background such as dogs barking, people talking and dishes rattling. I liked the last song by a player/mechanical piano but you won't find The Lecuona Cuban Boys sound on this CD.

As a gift this is an excellent idea, note that this is a thin book with one CD but worth the money.
