I bought this book for my niece and she instantly fell in love with it. She is a girl that has thrown tantrums in her day but when she read the book, she said, I don't want to be bossy like her. It was adorable to see the transition in my niece. This book has fabulous illustrations and is a must buy for young girls. Everyone I have shown the book to wants a copy of their own.

It is one of the best books I have ever read.My favorite part was when Maddie got a pair of bossy boots from babby siter Anna.I think the book is worth $1,000.Because it is a great book and I love everything about it.I also like the book because my name is Maddie to.

In this book Author Susan Hastings explores the emotions that all children experience from time to time. In a gentle, playful way she brings to light the reality of feeling these emotions and offers ways to constructively express them in an appropriate manner at an appropriate time.


As a Preschool Teacher and Mother of one I know first hand the importance of labeling feelings and giving children age appropriate mediums to express them in a "safe" space fostering Social/Emotional development. Hastings has done an outstanding job bringing this story to life captivating the youngest of readers. This book is a great tool and I would (and have) recommend this book to both Parents and Educators alike!

Maddie is a moody young girl prone to fits of temper. Anna is the regular sitter for her and her younger brother Max and one-day Anna takes them to a restaurant where Maddie throws a fit and food. The restaurant manager handles it very well, taking a picture of Maddie when she is making a vile face. He also crowns her drama queen, which embarrasses Maddie. Her parents keep the picture and then get her some "Bossy Boots", which when worn, make Maddie the boss of herself. This solves the problem of the temper and Maddie no longer throws her fits.
Superbly illustrated, this book is an excellent tool for teaching young children how to behave properly. I strongly recommend it for parents with young children, independent of the behavior of those children.

As a teacher, I recommend this book to aid in the emotional and social growth of young children. Children need to learn how to express their emotions in appropriate ways; small moments can seem so overwhelming when you're knee-high. The illustrations and the rhyming verse add charm and entertainment to this educational tale.
