5.0 out of 5 stars Diamond's Second Best
Like a secret treasure found in the bottom of a bargain bin, this is one CD that you will wish you had discovered years earlier. 2.0 out of 5 stars Moods
Unfortunately this is a budget cd. AQ was way average. Can someone tell me how to get a better quality CD on moods? Neil's "Long fellow serenade" album AQ was fantastic. Would prefer that AQ to be on moods.

5.0 out of 5 stars Diamond's Second Best, August 26, 2001

Like a secret treasure found in the bottom of a bargain bin, this is one CD that you will wish you had discovered years earlier. Like other reviewers with Diamond, thank God my dad turned me on to him as a kid. Unfortunately, much of Diamond's recognition comes with his hook-filled, pop flavored tunes that suffered from much overplay in their day, like Song Sung Blue, which is included on this album. But the real magic of Diamond comes from those hidden gems such as Morningside, the South American influenced Canta Libre, the gospel flavor of Walk on Water, the playful Gitchy Goomy, and of course the classic Play Me. Definitely, for me, the Diamond disc to own if you can't get Stones is this one, Moods.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can you wear out a CD?, March 22, 2002

If you are a Neil Diamond fan and you don't have this CD, get it! If you are just discovering Neil, start with this album! It is one of his best! "Song Sung Blue" and "Play Me" became major hits, but the other songs on here are like true gems as well. Especially "Cante Libre", "Gitchy Goomy" and "Walk on Water". And "Captain Sunshine" has become one of my favorite songs. There just isn't a bad song on this album! In a year or two I'll let you know the answer to the above question!

5.0 out of 5 stars Diamond at his peak, June 14, 2009

When I was little we had scads of Neil Diamond singles from his Bang & Uni years. My Dad finally bought a cassette recorder (an upright mono portable that cost a hundred bucks in 1972). For fathers day 1973, my sister gave him 2 cassette albums: Neil Diamond's "Moods" & "Jonathan Livingston Seagull." At age 8, I was hooked! For the first time we had 'portable' music (the family car had only an AM radio) and these 2 albums made every vacation trip with us. Today, at age 44, they are still in the CD case every trip I take. Neil Diamond was at his peak throughout the Uni years and up through the Columbia release "Serenade." Moods remains my favorite of all. It has been described as being like a spiritual experience to listen to and I couldn't agree more. "Play Me" "Captain Sunshine" & "High Rolling Man" are my very favorites but there's not a clinker on the album. Even "Gitchy Goomy" & "Porcupine Pie" are fun and well worth the listen. Having gotten used to the song sequence of the cassette, I found the CD version (which is the same as the LP) a bit disconcerting so I actually made a dub of it with the songs in the sequence I had been so used to throughout the years. To all the others who have written here, I raise my

Great CD. It replaced our old worn-out LP. Nice to have Neil to sing for us once again.

5.0 out of 5 stars A worthy follow-up to the awesome Tap Root Manuscript, June 18, 2000
By
This review is from: Moods (Audio CD)
After a stunning concept album (Tap Root Manuscript), Neil pulled in the reins a little with this 1972 project that ranged from poems set to music (Play Me, a lyrical masterpiece, no matter what some critics have said) to fun, folkish ditties (Gitchy Goomy) to touching ballads (Captain Sunshine). There isn't a bad song to be found, and his voice was still in fine shape.

I enjoy this recording very much. The lyrics are playful, and the vocals rich and soulful. For people who haven't discovered how great Neil Diamond was in his prime, try this one

4.0 out of 5 stars It brang me pleasure, May 31, 2009
This review is from: Moods (Audio CD)
Yeah, I know, there's no such word as "brang." I was so impressed with this record, way back in 1971 or whenever, I mentally glossed over that fact when Neil crooned it so dramatically in "Play Me."

I was an adolescent, particularly susceptible to clever weavings of word and tune; and this record seduced me, took me heart and soul, as only a hormone-drenched fifteen-year old can be taken.

On the sunset side of fifty, I find myself still deeply moved by the music, the emotion Neil infused into each phrase, the angst of the whole enterprise.

And that rates four stars, don'tcha think?
