5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice album
I always hate giving reviews after listening to an album after only two days, but this is so very easy to like. I just wonder if I'm going to be listening to this a month from now? It just goes down so smooth, and easy, and is very pleasant, that I'm not sure that it's going to stick around for me or not. The albums that I constantly listen to are ones that usually unfold...

2.0 out of 5 stars Great album, poor pressing
This is one of the best albums of the last 10 years in my opinion. The only thing better than owning the CD was owning the vinyl I thought. I sent the first copy I got from Amazon back since it was warped and the distorted sound was very evident on the first song on side two. I got a second copy and it is the same way. I guess I should send it back for a refund but I...

5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice album, October 29, 2008

I always hate giving reviews after listening to an album after only two days, but this is so very easy to like. I just wonder if I'm going to be listening to this a month from now? It just goes down so smooth, and easy, and is very pleasant, that I'm not sure that it's going to stick around for me or not. The albums that I constantly listen to are ones that usually unfold slowly for me, but there's some really nice songs on this album and it's consistent throughout, so I'd def recommend it !

Simon and Garfunkle, meets Iron & Wine, meets the Postal Service, if that makes any sense at all?

I guess I should send it back for a refund but I haven't yet since it's a bit depressing to not be able to own the record on vinyl, even if it sounds bad the album art and wood grain coloring of the record itself are beautiful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Retro-Folk Is Not a Good Enough Description, May 11, 2009
This review is from: Moody Motorcycle (MP3 Download)
I checked out this album first because of the cover art. It was simply too funny to let go. The first few songs were exactly what one might expect--very Sixties harmonies and rhythms--but the rest of the album reveals some real gems. Not only do these fellows have an excellent feel for retro-folk, not only have they nailed that Sxities sound, but they have an excellent sense of wit AND they are very accomplished musicians. The arrangements are surprisingly lush: The use of key instrumentation is used very effectively and, unsurprisingly, very subtly. The lyrics seem jaunty and blithe but are actually sharply poignant when not absurdly clever. One could easily listen to this album in the background with nary a thought but of pleasant tunes, but listening more closely reveals exceptional attention to sonic detail. Furthermore, musicianship is very high. I do not know which instruments are being played by whom, but it is all quite good.

I write very few reviews because, as a musician and avid music lover, few efforts truly stand out. Human Highway impresses me somewhat as a retro-modern XTC: They are gifted musicians with a solid understanding of idiom and, more important, a wicked good sense of humor. And the cover art is hilarious.

5.0 out of 5 stars amazing on vinyl!!!!, March 21, 2011

i first heard moody motorcycle quite awile back while i was in the air studio of the radio station i have a show on. i immediately loved the first track "the Sound", but wasn't so sure about the rest of them. i should say that sometimes when doing radio i get into this skimming mode where if the music isn't completely grabbing me within a few seconds i skip to the next track because i have so much music to go through. a friend bought this album and started playing it all the way through at work and i began to realize that the whole album was really good. i listened to it quite a bit and it became a favorite cd to listen to at work. i liked it well enough, to order it on vinyl. when it arrived, i filed it with some of my other recent purchases but didnt listen for a few weeks. when i finally slipped it out of its sleeve and put the needle on the record, i was blown away!. this is an album that was made to be listened to on vinyl. i heard things in it i had never heard before on the digital version. it has become one of my favorite records to listen to. if you have been thinking about getting your turntable out again...do it! and get this record to be the first one you listen to on it!
