Best Travel Guide for this region,
This review is from: Moon Atlantic Canada: Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland, and Labrador (Moon Handbooks) (Paperback)
This is the best guide for this region with comprehensive listings for accomodations, restaurants and places to see. It is very detailed including information on the little known islands belonging to France just off the Canandian coast (several guides exclude these). Moon, which is almost always excellent, maintains their high quality in this book. ALso it contains highlights and suggestions slightly out of the ordinary for the adventuresome traveler.

This book is great, chocked full of information in a compact volume that covers a surprising number of areas (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI, Newfoundland and Labrador) with great detail. Geared towards the budget traveler looking for a personalized trip, this volume has detailed information about food, accomodations, camping, hiking, historical information, maps, photos (ok, they are mostly B&W), an internet resource index and listings of many other regional highlights. The book is not like a 'Fodors' or 'Michelin' which are of a different sort of tour guide than this book.

We enjoyed using this book on our trip through Atlantic Canada, but got frustrated with it. I knew that it was three years old, so it wouldn't be totally up to date. Unfortunately, FOUR different restaurants in four different cities were out of business. I think that was all the restaurants we chose via the book. This isn't the writer's fault, but it was annoying. The historical stuff was thorough and the writer was generally more positive and comprehensive about the Maritimes than my Canada-wide book. Just don't go chasing businesses mentioned in the book, or make sure to call first.

Good overview of the restaurants, inns and attractions. I felt the Michelin guide was weak on small places and fish pounds etc for a local flavor.
the Moon guide filled some of that deficit, and was very useful

The type is so small in this guidebook, and the pages so cluttered, that it was unpleasant to read it. I don't need reading glasses but this was just too much. I'm sending it back.
