A nice, but fairly predictable read. Although, there were some reveils that were surprises, I wasn't really enthralled. I enjoyed it as a light summer read.

Moon Burning by Lucy Monroe
Paranormal Romance -Feb. 1st, 2011
4 ½ stars

Moon Burning is the third in the Children of the Moon series and Lucy Monroe's best yet! In this book, two shifters from rival clans are attracted to each other and spark contention and deep secrets.

The Chrechte are powerful shifters but the prior books have only dealt with the most prosperous, the wolves. Now it is revealed that there are also bird shifters. But they have been hunted by the wolves of different clans who were jealous of their unique powers. The bird-shifters seems doomed as they are hunted to near-extinction and their sacred stone stolen.

A warrior and raven shifter, Sabrine keeps a look out for the dangerous wolves that seek to kill them. One day, she is shot down. She quickly changes into a beautiful woman to hide her identity and is found by the new clan Chief Barr, who is a wolf shifter. But Barr is different and wants Sabrine for his own. He knows she is magical but does not realize she is one of the mythical raven shifters. Sabrine grows to admire this new leader who is honorable and caring. But she knows someone from his clan has stolen the stone, and she must retrieve it and leave. Her clan needs the sacred stone, and she knows there is no future for their two opposing clans. However, Barr has finally found the woman who makes his heart race and he vows to never let her go.

These two main characters are a well matched pair, and it is fun reading about them working out their differences. Barr is a super sexy alpha male who wants to protect and care for Sabrine, but Sabrine is a proud warrior who wants her independence. I loved how Barr bends down to Sabrine's will but still watches over her. Sometimes Barr is a bit bossy but that is because he cared for her so much and wanted to be a part of her life. He can't stand that she is hiding something about herself. I really liked Sabrine because she could match Barr and maintains her own identity against such a strong and even larger than life personality. Her integrity and will to protect and care for her clan makes her a worthy character.

Strong, dynamic characters and a secret animosity between shifter clans make for an exciting third book!

4.0 out of 5 stars 4-1/2 stars- I love this series!, February 26, 2011
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Moon Burning (Kindle Edition)
I was very much looking forward to the next book in this series and was not disappointed when I read this book. I love how this series marries historical romance with paranormal shifter romance. It is not necessary to have read the other books in the series to enjoy this book, though I think that after reading this book you will want to read the other two.

As in her other two books in the series, this book also has a secondary romantic storyline and great supporting characters. The hero and heroine and strong, alpha characters who "fit" together wonderfully and there is just enough action going on to keep the book moving at a swift pace.

I can't wait to see what Lucy Monroe has in store for the next book in this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Action, passion and a clever plot make Moon Burning a sizzling story!", January 6, 2012
This review is from: Moon Burning (A Children of the Moon Novel) (Mass Market Paperback)
Sabrine is the protector of her raven shifter clan. She is searching for a sacred stone that was taken from her clan by the dastardly Donegal clan. Werewolves and Ravens have been enemies for centuries, so it's not surprising to Sabrine that the Donegal wolves stole their stone. Sabrine is willing to do whatever it takes to get it back including infiltrating the enemy camp.

Barr never asked to be the new laird of the Donegal clan but it doesn't take him long to realize the guy he replaced is as corrupt as they come. It is now his job to turn this clan around and get rid of the riff raff. The clan is his primary focus until he gets pleasantly distracted by a lovely lass he finds in the woods. He doesn't believe he's getting the whole story from the lass but he is beguiled by her and claims her under his protection.

Barr and Sabrine may not build their relationship on trust but they have plenty of fiery chemistry to make up for it. Can two natural born enemies find love together? Will they survive the enemies that lie underneath their noses?

Action, passion and a clever plot make Moon Burning a sizzling story! Barr and Sabrine are like star-crossed lovers fated to be together and yet they are born enemies. The scenes between them are overflowing with skyrocketing fireworks. Whether they are arguing or making up these two know how to turn the heat up a notch. Sabrine and Barr are both fierce characters and they bring their strong wills to the relationship making for some interesting situations. The story underlying the relationship is fast-paced and intriguing. It is easy to be drawn to the characters and the situations they are facing. Lucy Monroe's storytelling is suave and exciting. This is my first Children of the Moon novel and I can't wait to read the next. It's not necessary to have read the first two novels to enjoy Moon Burning.

5.0 out of 5 stars OMG! Awesome!, April 28, 2011
This review is from: Moon Burning (A Children of the Moon Novel) (Mass Market Paperback)
As with Moon Awakening and Mood Craving, I was not disappointed with this book. I wasn't sure how Monroe would pull off a third book, but she did it perfectly and I hope there will be more added to this series.
Although the book is considered paranormal romance, it doesn't dwell too much on the paranormal, but more on the romance. And that's what I love about this series.
And OMG the sexy-parts are to die for; well written and... oh my!
Well done Lucy! A+++

2.0 out of 5 stars Didn't Work For Me, April 23, 2011
This review is from: Moon Burning (A Children of the Moon Novel) (Mass Market Paperback)
This one just didn't work for me. I never connected with either main character and the story line felt choppy and drawn out. I think had Moon Burning been released closer to the last book in the series, Moon Craving which came out Feb 2010, I might have been better able to carry over my warm and fuzzy feelings from it. Though from the start of this series there were long gaps. The first book, Moon Awakening, came out in 2007 and then nothing for 3 years.

Moon Burning had a lot of potential, I just think that, for me, it wasn't ever fully reached. I was confused from the beginning over all the terms coupled with the fact that it's a historical and is wrote with an old time feel. I don't remember having that issue in the past 2 installments. Those read with an easy fluidity that I didn't feel with this one. It felt more forced.

I found Barr and Sabrine to be a couple of convenience and I never fully felt their connection to each other. I mean, sure there was the animalistic love, but as far as a deep emotional connection, I just didn't see it. Barr, at times, seemed like an overbearing jerk..and not in the hot alpha way lol. Sabrine's reasoning for not wanting to like Barr was justified but then the very same day (the day they met no less) she's getting hot and heavy in his bed...huh? It was all just odd.

Then there was the nature of their shifters. I find some animals to be sexy and others....not. I think that was a problem I had with Sabrine. I just don't like ravens. To close to a crow or something for me. I mean crows are dirty and they eat dead things and carry mites...Uggg. Give me an eagle or a hawk or some big bird of prey if we are gonna go the bird route, they seem majestic...but a raven just didn't do it for me.

The side characters were plentiful and out of all of them I did like Verica and Earc. Their union, though fast, seemed more connected and emotional. There seemed to be more fundamental ground there. I enjoyed Verica's spunky-ness and innate protectiveness of Earc, though he certainly didn't need it. I thought that they could have easily had their own book.

So while I loved the previous two books in this series, Moon Burning didn't work for me. I wanted more emotion and more content. I didn't feel like there was enough action and the majority of the book dragged for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars A passionate and wonderful book, March 27, 2011

This review is from: Moon Burning (A Children of the Moon Novel) (Mass Market Paperback)
Lucy Monroe takes us back to her intriguing paranormal world in Moon Burning.

Barr is a man whose believes strongly in duty and protection of his people. He hadn't ever dreamed to be laird over the Donegal clan but when this is asked of him he readily agrees. Barr knew this new leadership would be a struggle for the floundering clan but he had faith in his ability to lead. He didn't expect to find a mesmerizing naked woman in the forest when he was hunting with the clan. Barr is shaking by the intense attraction he feels for this woman. He vows to protect her at all cost. Barr is also leader of its werewolf pack and thinks in Sabrine he has found his true mate.

Sabrine has given her word to protect her people. She is determined to find the sacred stone and return it so her people will thrive. Sabrine pretends to have no memory prior to being found in the woods. She thinks this will give her easier access to the clansmen and be able to retrieve the sacred stone. Sabrine keeps her raven shifting ability to herself for she was raised to believe that the wolfs are her enemy. But once Barr stakes his claim on her body will her heart be far behind?

Moon Burning is a captivating story that is hard to put down. The characters are charismatic and deeply moving. The relationship between Barr and Sabrine is intriguing as well as sensual. The friendship between members of the clan is heartfelt and riveting. I love being drawn into this world and hope to come back to it again soon. You can never go wrong with a Lucy Monroe story.

4.0 out of 5 stars this book was great but not as good as moon craving, February 13, 2011
This review is from: Moon Burning (A Children of the Moon Novel) (Mass Market Paperback)
this book was really good and a fast read i read it in a day. i really did love the book because all the characters were really great, they were strong and good people but my only prob with barr was how he dissregarded his clan leader and had sex with 2 other girls. he says about how it costs him friends but i wouldnt even mind at all because as in most all romance novels the men get around, but he just went agains his leader and made things wierd with the girls he did it with and one of them was a virgin. i like when the guys have never been with virgins before it seems a lot more special that way. i hated that detail and i dont see how that added to the story - honest to god i think thats why i give it a 4. aside from that it turned me off of the main story and more into the side story of earc and verica. their story was really good and it prob could have been a book of its own. its completly worth the read and maybe these small things will not bug other readers it was just a turn off for me and i also felt that moon craving was one of the best novels ive read and this book didnt messure up for me as well but it was still really good.
