A great view of Ecuador,

This review is from: Moon Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands (Moon Handbooks) (Paperback)
I have made many trips to Ecuador and have consulted many travel books on that country. This particular book is the best one I've read - the information is presented in a comprehensible manner and is interesting.
Each section provides you with specific tips that allow you to experience the local culture, thus avoidig any pitfalls that the inexperienced traveler could encounter. The book highlights the country's wide range of cultural and geographical diversity.

This is another well written guide from the Moon Travel Series. (I "graduated" from Lonely Planet about seven years ago and have no plans to return.)
My husband and I traveled through the central Sierra and jungle area for a few weeks in early 2010. We used this guide and were very happy with the decisions that we made based on the information provided. No complaints, just another set of happy travelers. Thank you, Moon Ecuador!

This book is a mine of interesting and very useful information.I particularly like the detailed descriptions and recommendation of places to see and places to stay.
It is written in a very easy to read style. My copy is already dog-eared. I highly recommend it to everyone interested in visiting Ecuador.

There are lots of guidebooks ... picking one with current information is a first priority. Beyond that, finding one that digs deeper into the kind of questions a typical visitor has turns out to be useful as well. This book does that well. I was also happy with the Internet references scattered throughout so I could find other information too.

I am 3 weeks away from my first trip to Ecuador, and South America, and have throughly enjoyed this guide book. All of the Moon guides I have read are good. Unfortunately my copy ordered on June 2, 2010, has pages 85-116 replaced with a repeat of pages 53-84 so this is just a warning to check your copy when you get it. It was beyond the return date before I noticed it and I'm still trying to find out how to get a replacement.
Hopefully this is just a fluke and other copies are fine.

Great book! Had checked this out several times from the library and decided that the newest version was in order. We are moving to Ecuador hopefully in the Spring and this has some very good information in it. I wish the pages were the quality of the older version but it is still a great value. This is a must-have for anyone that is going to travel to Ecuador and has good information for those of us that wish to relocate to there as well.

not enough information,

- had about five pages on Quito the capital. Most of this was churches in the historic center. Quito has a wealth of museums, parks and attractions all of which I had to find out from other guide books because Moon barely mentioned them
- For many cities Moon said not worth going to, ended up being amazing and beautiful and I'm glad I ignored them - The information is sooooooo out of date. It says 2009 but I'm not sure when the information is from because laws, bus systems, prices, museums, all have changed drastically and I am always setting off with bad information thanks to Moon - 40 pages were missing. Not sure if this is Moon or the publisher's fault but thought I would mention it. - very very disappointed. Ecuador is an amazing country and Moon makes it seem like it sucks.

Pages missing,
This review is from: Moon Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands (Moon Handbooks) (Paperback)
After having a look at several guides at my public library, I liked the Moon guide better than most and decided to order the new edition. Didn't get around to any serious reading until last week when I quickly discovered that a whole section (pp.84-117) were completely missing from the book! What a disappointment and certainly not Amazon's fault. I'm sure they would have made it good, but who would want a flawed book, and why should I have to go to all the trouble to return it to get credit? It took some searching on the internet, but I finally found a way to complain to the publisher by email. They did send me a quick apology and another copy by two-day UPS. This one seems fine.

A complete guide book of the subject areas in the Fodder tradition. Seems very complete (haven't left for my trip yet). Doesn't appear to have been updated in 5-10 years.Couldn't find a date referring to when it was published.
