I had done a considerable amount of searching on the Internet and at some local outlets but could not seem to come up with a concise listing of RV parks that would serve our needs for long-term stays. I found this guide quite helpful in locating several areas and parks that precisely fit our agenda. The detail information proved to be accurate as I started making phone calls and visiting with some RV Park operators.
We will be arriving in Florida in just a couple of months and will do a second write-up as we explore the southern part of the state.

Book was in decent enough shape (was in the shape as described). No surprises, got what I ordered! The book is SO helpful! LOVE it. Have already used it a bunch of times. It's a genius idea and is so helpful since I'm so picky with where I camp, I have to have full hookups and I have pets and I love outdoor activities..etc. PLUS, a lot of these campgrounds do NOT have websites, so this book is so helpful. THANKS!

I am a Florida kayak guide and teacher Short and to the point. Florida RV Camping is the best book on the subject published thus far. If you are a tent camper don't let the title scare you off. There are hundreds of campground that welcome both RV people and tenters and each one is covered in this book.

The criticism of Florida RV Camping is off-base. I'm the author of both the RV book and also Florida Camping, and the RV book is targeted to a different reader. It focuses exclusively on the needs of the RV and trailer camper. It is RV-specific, listing such things as lot sizes, amperage of utilities, and whether interior roads are paved or easy to maneuver. It has a larger typeface and less compact design. Primitive campgrounds are excluded, and it is assumed the reader will not want to be placed near tenters.
Florida Camping, by contrast, is the all-encompassing, comprehensive guide to all kinds of camping in Florida. It's been called the "Bible" for its breadth. It is also more nature-oriented than the RV book, and is targeted more to tent campers, backpackers, canoeists and kayakers. RV parks ARE included in Florida Camping, as are back-country sites. Things change quickly in Florida, as is noted, so all information is subject to change. Not just hurricane damage caused changes in 2004 and 2005. In 2006, the real estate boom took its toll on many RV parks and campgrounds; some owners were in the process of selling their land to developers when these books went to press. The ensuing real estate bust means that the market is still in flux. Marilyn Moore Author

Don't be fooled by 2006 copyright - way out of date!,

This book is almost an exact duplicate of Foghorn Outdoors Florida Camping, which has a 2003 copyright. Moon and Foghorn are now combining into Moon Handbooks and published by Avalon Travel, so Moon decided to use the same author to publlish this Moon guide. (This author holds the text copyright herself, so technically there is no wrongdoing here, except for fooling the buyer.)
"Copy-and-paste" is her favorite tool evidently, since the listings for the Everglades are identical in both books, so the information is at least 3 years old - a long time in the camping industry. Website listings are often inaccurate and cannot be found on the web since they have changed, and some RV parks are no longer in business as such, while others have been sold or redeveloped as "resorts". I also sampled listings for Lake Okeechobee and for the Florida Keys, and the ones I checked were also identical. I am very disappointed in Moon, and have lost confidence in them as a result. This seems like a cheap publishing trick to me! |
