About the Author

Kap Stann was born and raised in New York State, where most of the travelling she did was on family car trips up and down the East Coast. Now a seasoned traveller, Kap has visited 48 states, toured 10 European countries, worked as a Swiss maid, vacationed in Mexico, explored remote corners of Central America and Southeast Asia, and crossed the Andes on foot to Macchu Pichu. Even after all of these experiences, she still maintains that the American South is the most "unexpectedly exotic" place she has ever seen. Kap's first glimpse of the South took place on a trip to Georgia when she was in her late twenties. Today her travel guides cover every state south of the Mason-Dixon line, from Maryland to Louisiana. Prior to writing guidebooks, Kap was a freelance writer, covering health, labour, education, and women's issues. She has also worked in a media reform organization, and run the public affairs office for the University of San Francisco and UC Berkeley Extension. I bought this book to help plan for our trip to Augusta. Within are over six pages devoted to the city and a section about the Augusta environs (middle Georgia). Moon's Handbook is a great tourist starting point that provides historic and cultural background about the entire state and specific locales within. Helpful are the sections on attractions, restaurants, and accomodations. Visitors to the larger cities like Atlanta, Savannah, or Athens will find extensive information about the cities and the ourskirts.

Readers will also enjoy the maps of large and small areas, but will probably want to supplement these with more detailed maps from other sources. Some quoted prices are probably no longer current, but they give the reader a good approximation at least and are good for comparative purposes.
